Dawn of War 2 Mentor Program Relaunching!

By Geamr - 4th March 2010 - 09:17 AM

We here at Gamereplays are launching our next version of the Dawn of War 2 Mentor program! Many of you took part in the last run of this project, but for those who didn't, it's simply a training program where a skilled player takes other, newer players under his wing. It's all strictly voluntary and conducted right here in our Mentoring forums.

Rules for the new Mentoring Project:
This project will rely on you, the user, to organize yourselves into mentee/mentor pairs! Keep in mind that this project will be discontinued if too many people don't follow the rules or if it's not working out for whatever reason!

Here's how it will work:
There will still be a sign-up thread for both mentees and mentors, but they will be pinned in the Mentoring forum. You still sign up in those threads using the standard template:

GFWL: Your Games for Windows - LIVE Username.

STEAM: Your steam account name or a link to your Steam Community profile.

Number of mentees: Mentors only, how many mentees you are willing to take, though this number is less important now as I will explain later.

Time zone: Your current time zone and information on when you'll mostly be online.

TS: Your current TrueSkill in 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 and a short written assessment of your skill.

Race and commander of choice: The race and preferred commander you would like a mentor for.

You are free to add additional comments and replays to better describe yourself and your player skill, but keep it short!

You can sign up as both mentee and mentor.

1. Procedure for mentors:

Everyone who knows the basics of the game can apply to be a mentor, except banned users for obvious reasons.

Instead of having an admin do all the pairings, the mentors will choose their own mentees! Use your common sense here; only pick mentees close to your time zone and of your own races. Then get in contact with the mentee, via PM/Steam or any other means, and inform the mentee that you would like to be his mentor. Both mentee and mentor must agree on the pairing!

Once you have found enough mentees, edit your post in the mentoring thread to say that you have found enough mentees so it can be deleted, then send a PM to Ninjabutter with the following title:

Your name & name of mentee 1, name of mentee 2 etc.
The message should contain links to you and your mentees' posts in the application threads, so they can be deleted easily.

A thread for you and your mentees will then be created in the Mentoring forum. You may only post in the thread assigned to you, though you are allowed to read other threads in the forum.
You should stay with your mentees for at least a few weeks, and inform them if you are going to be away for a longer while. After you have concluded your work with your mentees, send a message containing a link and explanation to a staff member and will close your thread.

Do not apply for another mentee while you still have a mentoring thread open in the forum, if one or more of your mentees has gone missing for more than a week PM a staff member and he will close the thread or remove the missing mentee and add a new one if you desire. You may only post a new application in the mentor thread once your current thread has been closed.

2. Procedure for mentees:

After you have created your post in the application thread you wait for a mentor of suitable skill/race/time zone to contact you.

While it is preferred that you wait for the mentors, you can also contact them if you see someone who might be fitting, but use your common sense and don't just message each mentor and hope for the best! This just creates confusion and will get you excluded from the project!

So, when you have found a mentor, and you both agreed to the pairing, the mentor will send a PM to a staff member and a thread will be created for you in the Mentoring forum, and your application post will be deleted.
