GROS #1 Tournament E Rules

Date and Time
Friday, May 27th at 5:30PM EST (23:30 CET)- Round of 128
Saturday, May 28th at 11AM EST (17:00 CET)- Round of 64, 32, and 16
Sunday, May 29th at 11AM EST (17:00 CET)- Round of 8,4, and finals

Flexible Friday
Players can request to play at one of three start times for Friday's round of 128 matches: 4:00 PM EST (22:00 CET), the standard 5:30 PM EST (23:30 CET), or 7 PM EST (1:00 CET). Players should indicate their desired start time in their respective registration post. If no special time is indicated, it is assumed that the player wishes to play at the standard 5:30 PM EST (23:30 CET) start time.

Run Time
Each round is anticipated to last roughly an hour and a half with the exception of the final. A fifteen minute break between rounds should be factored into calculations of when the tournament will conclude each day. Please plan accordingly.

Registration
Players wishing to participate must be registered GameReplays users and must submit their Steam name in the registration thread for the purpose of organizing games. One must also join two Steam groups, one for general chat and organizing games and one for official mediation. If registered, it is assumed that one has already checked both dates and times to ensure that one can participate, and that one agrees to the terms listed in this rules document.

NOTE THAT THE OFFICIAL GAMEREPLAYS STEAM GROUP IS IRRELEVANT TO GAMEREPLAYS OPEN SEASON REGISTRATION. But feel free to join that too.

Tournament Format
The rounds of 128, 64, 32, 16, 8, and 4 will all be played in a best of three format. The finals will consist of a best of five match.

Map Selection
First Map Pool: Fedrid Folley, Craftworld, or Jarilo's Forge.

Map and hero selection for the first round of a match is as follows:
  • Player in the top bracket position proposes a map from the map pool above.
  • The second player can either choose to accept the proposed map or veto the map.
    • If the second player accepts the proposed map, the first player must lock in their hero choice first, while the second player may counter-pick based on this race selection.
    • If the second player vetoes the proposed map, the second player then proposes a map selection from the remaining two maps in the pool. The first player can then choose to accept this map or veto it.
    • If the first player accepts the newly proposed map, the second player then locks in their hero and the first player can counter-pick.
  • If both proposed maps are vetoed, the final map in the first map pool is selected and first hero selection goes to the first player with the second player receiving the ability to counter-pick.
  • At any time in this map selection process, a player can, in lieu of proposing a map, defer map choice to the other player in order to have second hero choice. Doing so sacrifices one's use of a map veto, and re-opens up the entire three map pool for the other player to select from. A player cannot defer hero choice if the other player has already, in proper form, elected to do so.
Following Map Pool: Entire 1v1 Automatch Pool (Excludes Hive City)
  • Loser chooses map OR chooses hero second.
  • The player that does not choose the map receives two vetoes that can be used. Vetoes reset after every round.
  • The loser receives the advantage of either map pick or second hero selection until the set is complete.
Other Notes
  • The best of five finals will adhere to the same set of map selection rules, only with five possible games instead of three.
  • It is the responsibility of the players to adhere to the rules of map selection, and series will not be replayed after they have been completed. If you have any confusion at all, do not hesitate to contact a referee (designated by a star in the steam chat) with your question.
Custom Map Note
To find the location of the custom maps, as well as how to install them, please visit the GameReplays Open Season Tournament E Hub. These will be crucial in being able to play the matches as no other maps are allowed during the first round of the set. Be sure that you have these installed and tested well before the tournament starts so that issues with custom maps do not occur during this tournament.

Hero/Race Selection
For each game in a match, the player who nominates a map must select his/her race and hero first, with the other player to follow. This process continues throughout a match, so that the advantage of selecting a map is offset by granting the other player the ability to alter one's race/hero choice.

Win Reporting and Replay Submission
The victor of a match must as soon as possible do two things: notify the tournament staff of the victory in the official administration channel and post the replays and results in the appropriate match thread within the tournament subforum. Please post the replays into the GameReplays.org replay system using the following format:
  • Title: Player 1 (Commander) vs Player 2 (Commander) M(Match number from the brackets) G(game number here)
  • Description: list any additional comments on the match, including the results of the match (Eg: 2-1)
  • BBCode link to replays as shown by this guide.
An example article will be posted before the tournament begins to show what this should look like.

Brackets
Brackets can be located the Thursday before the event at Binary Beast. A direct link to brackets will be forthcoming once the player list is solidified.

Disconnects
In the event of a disconnect, three possible courses of action will unfold:
  1. If both players agree, the map will be replayed.
  2. If both players agree on a clear victor due to an overwhelming advantage gained before the drop, the game can be counted as a victory and the match can proceed.
  3. In the event that both players cannot agree on either replaying the map or awarding a victor, the staff must be contacted in the tournament administration Steam chat to arbitrate a decision based upon the replay evidence provided and circumstances surrounding the drop.
Steam Chats and Match Organization
As previously mentioned, two Steam groups will be set up for this event, the general chat and the administrative chat. To participate, one must join both and be present in BOTH chats no later than 15 minutes before matches begin. Players will be expected to confer with the bracket and use the chat to organize matches with opponents. In the event that a difficulty arises with getting a series started, please contact an official via the administrative Steam chat. If one is not present in the chats, one will be passed over when the time comes to play and the opponent will be given a default win. This decision is final and non negotiable.

Absence Rule
If one misses a match without alerting the tournament staff in advance, one will be barred from competition in the next GROS tournament. If one becomes aware that one will be unable to make a match, an email, pm, or Steam message to blaqk will sufficiently take care of the matter and prevent any disciplinary action.

Bans
Game breaking bugs and exploits are not to be used under penalty of disqualification. Any problems concerning the use of exploits should be directed in advance to blaqk via pm or during the event to the tournament administrators.

Referees and Rules
In the event of any disagreements, please consult a tournament administrator via the correct Steam chat. A list will be provided in the player checklist before the event of tournament staff, and each will be an administrator in the steam group. The decisions of the GameReplays tournament staff are final and non-negotiable. Failure to adhere to any of the rules, which by registering one has consented to read and follow, will result in disciplinary action.

Please direct any questions you have to the tournament hub.
