TechnologyThe engine used to run
Modern Warfare 2 is a step up from the one used in
Call of Duty 4. The
IW 4.0 engine is capable of rendering more expansive terrain with little performance hit and better graphical detail. A significant improvement has been made over the infinitely spawning enemies that have been present in previous
Call of Duty titles with dynamic artificial intelligence creating smarter enemies so the game does not need to rely on their population to challenge the player. Upon playing the level more than once, the enemies will behave differently.
The multiplayer side has seen significant changes in networking.
Modern Warfare 2 is the first game
Infinity Ward has tested
IWNet, a matchmaking service functioning through Peer-to-Peer connections, with. Whilst improvements have been made to decrease lag and provide a solid multiplayer interface via P2P connections, it has been met with considerable disappointment by the PC audience as it replaced the existing arrangement of dedicated servers for online gaming.
