It seems that
Twitch.tv will have a competitor gunning for its own share of the
Gaming and
Esports scene. At least that is the plan that
Google-owned
YouTube has currently if
The Daily Dot is to be believed.
The latter, speaking to "sources within the streaming industry", claims that
YouTube is planning to reboot its
Live service so as to better position itself in the streaming scene and to directly challenge
Twitch's current monopoly.
If you can recall, back in mid-2014
Google had planned to purchase
Twitch for a cool US$1 Billion (close to the final $970 million that
Amazon eventually acquired the streaming service for) but the deal broke down as a result of
anti-trust concerns.
Until
Google comes out with an official statement it is anything but a hide and seek game. However, the prospect of
YouTube, currently the largest video website on the Internet, competing against
Twitch, the number one
US live-streaming site does seem an enticing bout indeed.
Whether or not
YouTube and
Google can back up such a challenge by providing a sufficiently efficient platform that can draw exclusive deals with the major international gaming leagues however remain to be seen. Do give us your thoughts below!
