Nintendo NX

By FallenXE - 4th August 2016 - 15:39 PM

Hot off the heels of re-releasing the NES, Nintendo is back in the console spotlight, this time courtesy of an article from the folks over at Eurogamer.

Nintendo's upcoming NX will be a portable, handheld console with detachable controllers, a number of sources have confirmed to Eurogamer.

On the move, NX will function as a high-powered handheld console with its own display. So far so normal - but here's the twist: we've heard the screen is bookended by two controller sections on either side, which can be attached or detached as required.

Tentatively labelled as the Nintendo NX, as the above quote shows Nintendo intends it as a hybrid platform / handheld console where users can bring about their games around with them and then plug it back at home to their TV or Computer screen to enjoy the benefits of an orthodox console gaming experience. The NX is also rumoured to be using digital download and physical cartridges as the medium for their games a la the Game Boy and DS line of handhelds instead of optical discs.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, is so far the only game confirmed to be published for the NX console.

The same report also states that there are no plans for any backward compatibility with games from Nintendo's previous consoles, namely the Wii and Wii U and that the NX will have its own operating system developed internally by Nintendo. Its graphic display will apparently be powered by Nvdia's latest Tegra line of mobile processor chips.

So what do you think of this new development by Nintendo? Will it be able to distinguish itself out with its hybrid handheld / console model or will it fall to the same lacklustre problem as did the Wii U? Do tell us your thoughts below!
