Strong Versus: Armor, Air
The Soviet Flak Trooper is the Soviet's anti-air and anti-armor infantry. This unit can attack ground targets and is fairly effective against light armored and air units, but it is not as effective versus other infantry. If your opponent is harassing your economy heavily with air units leaving two or three Flak Troopers by your Refineries can be helpful in repelling these attacks especially if you can't afford a Bullfrog or a defensive structure. They are extremely helpful in eliminating Burst Drones.
The Flak Trooper's secondary ability is very useful against armored targets. The Flak Trooper can throw magnetic mines that latch on to armor units. If you can get five or six Flak Troopers in their secondary mode they can be very effective at destroying early game harassment vehicles.
