New Year, New Maps Tournament Announcement

By Commissioner Sybert - 28th January 2015 - 05:51 AM

Greetings Comrades,
It's time to mix things up and meet your enemies on a new battlefield! Red3.org and GameReplays are proud to announce the New Year, New Maps 1v1 for fun tournament. That's right, no old maps. Only maps that have not been played in premiere tournaments for years, and mostly never played in a tournament.

You will need to be set up with C&C: Online. Make sure you do that before the day of. Remember, GameReplays is not the place to get help with C&C: Online. Head to the C&C: Online support forums for help.

New Year, New Maps will be played out on Saturday February 14th at 14:00 GMT/ 15:00 CET. We will meet in the Tournaments 01 lobby immediately after you check-in. Time differences can be cross-checked using this time zone converter. The tournament is expected to last at least 6-8 hours so please ensure you've scheduled enough time to participate.

New Year, New Maps will be a single elimination, open bracket event. All rounds will be Bo3, up to Bo5 semi-finals, and the final will be a Bo7.
The first map of each round will be based upon map elimination, loser picks thereafter. Please click the show button to learn exactly how map elimination works as you are expected to know this information.
Map Elimination Guide

Map elimination applies to the first game of every round. The process is to determine what the first map of a series will be, in as fair a manner as possible. If both players agree, either player can start the elimination, but if you can't decide quickly who should start, then the player with the lower seed number will eliminate the first map. In this example image JPBP would eliminate the first map. Both players will alternate eliminating a map, one at a time, until only one map remains. This is what the process would look like:
JPBP: -Temple Prime
Vindies: -Cabana Republic
JPBP: -Snow Plow
Vindies: -Industrial Strength
JPBP: -BattleBase Beta
Vindies: -Infinity Isle
At this point the only map left is Fire Island so that is the first map to be played. Some players will use a "-" to indicate they are subtracting the map, but this does not always happen. Note that often times in games players will use abbreviations such as bbb, cr, fi, is, ii, sp, and tp. If your version of Red Alert 3 is not in English this may be confusing since the abbreviations may be different.

If you can't decide who should start the elimination the player with the lowest seed number on Challonge will eliminate first, check the bracket to find out who this is. If you don't know what that means ask a referee. Factions, including random, must be chosen before elimination begins and cannot be changed afterwards. If a player changes faction after map elimination is complete the other player can decide to counter pick a faction, do nothing, or restart the map elimination process. The same map cannot be played twice in any series. Same rule applies to each match of each round.
You can download a custom map pack featuring all the latest versions of the maps in this tournament if you don't already have them or download just the ones you don't have below.

Custom map install instructions

Custom maps are installed inside of the Red Alert 3 folder in roaming. For me the path is
CODE
C:\Users\[USER_NAME]\AppData\Roaming\Red Alert 3\Maps

Which will be the same for anyone using Windows Vista, 7, 8, or 8.1. If you use XP your path will be: C:\Documents & Settings\[USERNAME]\Application Data\Red Alert 3\Maps
Alternately you can type
CODE
%appdata%\Red Alert 3\Maps

to access the folder.
Download the maps from the link below. Extract them to a folder. Copy all of the map folders to the RA3 map directory. Your map folder should look like this image.
Once you've done that you're done. So launch the game and play some games. You'll know you've done everything correctly because the [1.12.2] modifier will be added to the map names.

Additional Tips

1. Download and add registry. If you're having trouble installing maps read that post it may help.

2. If you have the Ultimate Collection on Origin use Bibbers fixed launchers (these fix some registry entries and let command-line parameters pass through).

Registration

Registration will remain open until February 14th 13:00 GMT. The tournament will officially begin at 14:00 GMT. Anyone who is not playing by 14:15 will be disqualified. All you need to do to register for this tournament is to post your in-game name in the registration topic linked below. Only register if you're going to be able to show up.
Registration officially closes at 13:00 GMT February 14th. At this point check-ins will begin.

Check-in

At 13:00 GMT February 14th check-ins will open, and at 13:55 GMT check-ins will close. You will have 55 minutes to check-in and be confirmed in the bracket. Only players who properly check-in will be in the bracket, everyone else will be removed. After that point the brackets will be drafted and made official. There will be an official check-in thread that will open at 13:00. To check-in: simply post in the check-in thread and include your in-game nick if it's different than your forum name. If you check-in and you don't participate you may be banned from any Red3.org tournaments between February 15th and March 14th. If you can't play, don't check-in, if you can't check-in, don't register. Only players that are registered will be allowed to check-in. Only checked in players will be in the bracket. If you have a situation that would cause you to not be able to check-in, but you can still participate then message Commissioner Sybert.
Commissioner Sybert, and any refs, will be performing manual check-ins in-game if they can, but we cannot guarantee they will be able to. If you want to be guaranteed a spot then properly register and check-in.

If you're early then you're on time, if you're on time then you're late, and if you're late you're disqualified! There is simply no fun in sitting around waiting on people. If you need to take a break, inform your opponent and the ref. At most a 5 minute break will be allowed if needed. Only one break, per player, per round. If a player is found to be abusing this freedom, failing to inform the necessary parties, or not returning on time they will be disqualified at referee discretion.
Match-ups will be completely random as the seeds will be shuffled just after officially closing check-ins.
If you have any questions about anything at all please contact Commissioner Sybert via PM.
