Commander's Challenge: Scavenger & Gold Mine Collapsed

By ichigotowar - 28th April 2009 - 23:43 PM

The Commander’s Challenge Mission walkthroughs continue again this week with two more featured missions. Firstly we will take a look at the mission Scavenger which unlocks the Soviet commando Natasha then Your Gold Mine Has Collapsed which unlocks the Allied Mirage Tank.

Scavenger

Opponent(s):Vera + Takara
Exclusivity: Vehicle Husks Spread throughout map
Unlock: Natasha
Par Time: 13:30
Completion Time: 5:23

For one of the earlier missions this is fairly difficult. The game starts with an absolutely enormous array of unit husks placed precariously around the map. The strongest things are at the center of the map, including the infamous Tesla Tanks from the Red alert 3 Campaign, King Oni’s and Apocalypse Tanks. But you have to be fast, two other commanders are vying for the spoils, so the more they get, the less you get. So with this in mind, for Empire you can send out a lot of Dojo Cores to key portions of the map where you can reap the strongest units it has to offer. For Soviets, your key advantage is cheap infantry. A double Barracks near the three Riptides is your best bet, snatching them first and using them to ferry more infantry will assist in getting the goods. I wouldn't recommend Allies as they have no speedy transport and fairly costly infantry, even though they to can use the transports near your base to get around the map. Other than that it's down to speed and how many units you snatch. Keep in mind however, that it is very wise to take at least one of the Guardian Tankss near your base and switch it to painter mode. With so much brute force units being taken, it can prove invaluable and gives Allies a justifiable reason of being chosen with High Technology.

Your Gold Mine Has Collapsed

Opponent(s): Lydia
Exclusivity: Enormous Starting Cash
Unlock: Mirage Tank
Par Time: 3:00
completion Time: 2:49

On entry to this fight on the popular Map Snow Plow, two things are different: another 0 has been put at the end of your bank balance and Ore Refineries have a measly 250 ore in them. Basically your given a huge amount of money to just spam. But Lydia is also up on the game and she'll spam just like you. So you have spend fast, spam your money through every monetary orifice you have. So long as you spend more than she does you should be alright. Don't be afraid to go Crane, dual Mecha Bay or base defense spam. It doesn't take long before the unit count gets out of hand, so if you want to kill her you have to keep getting more and more units out. Shift + Click will build 5 of a unit at a time, and the best way to go when you have more money than sense. For Allies, an early infantry spamming with a 3:1 ratio of Peacekeeper to Javelin Soldiers then late War Factory and tech up to get those Guardians out works. Once you got a fair bit of infantry to defend roll your MCV in to her base turret push if necessary. For Soviets a Crane is ideal, but remember you'll only need one Refinery as it will not net any gain. Having two build queues are nice and you can build while you turret push with the MCV. As for the par time, I can't think of any effective strategies for Soviets or Allies to beat it under the stringent time limit. For Empire however see the VOD below.
