Forgotten Counter Attacks Question & Answer

By methuselah - 4th March 2014 - 16:13 PM

Good day Commanders! Recently GameReplays own methuselah got an opportunity to visit with the folks at EASY to discuss the new Forgotten counter attacks server opening on March 5th. The server is a beta server and all the details can be found at tiberiumalliances.com.

Enjoy!

GameReplays: What is the basis for the Forgotten units? Both in terms of unit types and art direction. Is it based on older games at all or is EASY just getting creative?

Anders Adlen: Many of the ground units are the same as the Forgotten defensive arsenal, but Phenomic and Easy have created the new air units. They are not directly based on any existing units but share characteristics with their GDI and NOD counterparts.

GameReplays: How much of this was in place when TA moved over from Phenomic?

Anders Adlen: A lot of the design work was done by Phenomic when we took over the game, like for example how the Forgotten armies should be made up at different levels and how to distribute them on the battlefield. All development to actually implement the feature has been done here in Stockholm.

GameReplays: Will attacks come from Bases, Outposts and Camps?

Carsten Holbach: Every Forgotten encampment but the Fortress will attack player cities.

GameReplays: What will precipitate an attack? Meaning is it simply proximity? Or do they respond to being attacked?

Carsten Holbach: They are not "counter attacks". The Forgotten will attack players without being directly provoked. So, if a player's city is in the vicinity of a Forgotten encampment, it will be attacked by it sooner or later.

GameReplays: Are there level constraints? Meaning will a level 50 Forgotten Outpost attack my level 15 base simply because I was foolish enough to be in the same vicinity?

Carsten Holbach :Yes that will happen if you are foolish enough to jump into a high level Forgotten area!

GameReplays: What are the attack constraints on the Forgotten? Human players are constrained by command points, repair time and distance. Are the Forgotten similarly constrained or is it a different mechanic?

Carsten Holbach :Distance wise the Forgotten cannot attack wider than players, if a Forgotten encampment is close enough for you to attack it, it can also attack you.

GameReplays: If the Forgotten really don't like me is there a maximum number of times an individual player can be attacked in a period of time?

Anders Adlen: The Forgotten get more confident when surrounded by their peers. The more Forgotten you have in your vicinity, the more attacks they will send your way.

GameReplays: What does the resource mechanic look like? In other words when attacked if you successfully defend is there a resource reward? And if you get your butt kicked I assume that is a total loss as it is in PvP?

Carsten Holbach: Basically it works exactly the same way as with normal PvP attacks. For damaging/destroying Forgotten offensive units you gain the same resources and the same applies for total loss of course. Forgotten will ghost your base, if they can! =)

GameReplays: What were the biggest challenges in terms of implementing this? This is a major change to the game and one that the player base has been looking forward to for some time so I'm wondering if there were specific hurdles that had to be overcome to make sure the integrity of the game was not broken?

Carsten Holbach: Getting into the game source code and design wise was one of the things that took a great deal of time and effort. It's one thing that you have a design written down, and another to understand what it really means. Also a written design is never perfect or 100% complete. There have been some details we needed to change or fill in during implementation, because they made no sense, raised technical issues or simply have not been there.

Anders Adlen: Having the Forgotten attack players is a big change to the game, and we can't predict exactly how players will respond to it and what new tactics might arise. We will monitor the Beta world closely and do small tweaks were deemed necessary.

GameReplays: Can you see a point down the road where the Forgotten become a playable faction?

Muhammad Al-kaisy: There are currently no plans to make the Forgotten a playable faction, but on the other hand never say never.
