Viewpoint #2 - Walk Through The Valley Of Death

By LuckyCharms - 19th September 2015 - 08:19 AM

Welcome to part two of Viewpoint. In this series, we will take a deeper look at how the resource scattering system of Act of Aggression works. It answers questions like: "Where can I find the resources?" and "Is it really random where the resource fields appear or is there a hidden scheme behind it?".

This time we will take a detailed look at the popular 1v1 map Walk Through The Valley Of Death.
If you haven't read the introduction to Viewpoint yet, we recommend it to fully understand what we will talk about. You can find the article here.

Walk Through The Valley Of Death

Mirrors edge

Every layout on the map is mirrored diagonally. If you discovered a resource field, you can flip it cross-wise on the map to find its equivalent at the enemies side (i.e. if you got an oil field in the upper left, you can be sure that another oil field can be found on the lower right).

For a better understanding
Below is a picture that help visualize how the resources are mirrored. Resource fields inside the blue area will be mirrored at the opposite blue area, same goes for fields in the red areas.

Layouts

After some research, we have discovered five different layouts, each with its own resource scatter. We will show you all the layouts, each with a screenshot and numbers representing the size of the resource field.

- Layout 1

Side note
Unfortunately we cannot guarantee that the following list is complete, it is possible Eugen will enlarge the number of layouts in future patches.

Conclusions

The map is quite balanced concerning resources, and irrespective of the selected layout you will have a fair and easily accessible amount of oil and aluminum near your base. Rare earth elements are somewhat short, but you will always find at least one small field in a relatively safe position near your base (except layout 2).

Know your place
Resource-wise its best to head for the left side & left bank first if you start in the south and head for the right flank & right bank if you start north. There will always be large fields nearby.
