The XM8 series was designed by the Heckler and Koch. These were supposedly set to replace the United States Army's previous infantry rifle the M416, however the project was cancelled in October 2005. The XM8 series come in a variety of sizes, with the compact variety having a nine inch barrel firing a 5.56x45mm NATO bullet with a 30 round detachable magazine.

Mechanics
The XM8 Compact is a fantastic sub machine gun and is probably one of the best in the game. With a combination of average recoil, a large magazine and superb iron sights, it is fantastic in many situations. The general rules apply; tap firing at distance, short to medium length bursts at mid-range and automatic for close quarters. Try to use this gun in its element which is close and personal. Its damage per second is one of the best in the game, so play to your strengths. Try to avoid long distance; it takes a fair few bullets to drop someone. Since it does possess a great damage per second output, don't be afraid to attack head on when needed, if your aim is true you should walk out on top. Magnum ammo isn't really needed that much because of the rate of fire. Body armour lets you survive a variety of things that would generally kill you, so use it. One thing to watch out for is the tendency for this guns magazine to evaporate but keen an eye on the ammo counter and you'll do fine.

Targeting
Like all of the XM8 weapons in this game, the iron sights are amazing. It doesn't require a red dot sight for close quarters, ever. The 4x scope is fairly effective, but be confident in your hip firing abilities. Although you shouldn't need the 4x scope often, as it is designed for close quarters combat.

Role
The XM8 Compact is fantastic in close quarters. The high fire rate and damage output means that it delivers damage fast like a bullet train and because of the magazine size it's more than capable of gunning two enemies down in rapid succession. For flanking its potential is great, it's silenced so your enemies won't know your there until it's far too late, and because the magazine size is good, it's hard to be caught out of rounds in your magazine during combat. Overall it's probably tied with the UMP.45 for overall best sub machine gun in the game. Remember it works best in their faces.
