The M24 is the military and police version of the Remington 700 rifle, which has been used as the standard US Army sniper rifle since 1988. It is also used by the Israeli Defence Forces. The M24 is due to be replaced in the US Army by the newer M110, a semi-automatic sniper rifle.

Mechanics The M24, like other bolt action sniper rifles, excels at long distance combat. Use the excellent scope to try for headshots at range. Alternatively, if you're in close quarters combat you can use the rifle as a kind of one-shot shotgun, allowing you the chance of a killing shot without switching to your secondary weapon.
Targeting The M24's default scope is a cross, with small circles on the lines. These circles are called mil-dots, and they allow you to better guess where you should be aiming to get a headshot. This is probably the easiest sniper scope to use, and as the M24 has the same accuracy and damage as the other bolt-action sniper rifles, this is an important difference. The 12x Scope is the best upgrade for extended long-range sniping, but the 6x is adequate for most uses.

Role It's the best rifle to learn long-range sniping on, as the mil-dots will allow you learn quickly how much your bullets drop at different ranges. The small magazine and slightly longer reload time mean that it's not as effective as the SV98 at short range. It's probably the best of the starting weapons across classes, and it remains a viable choice as other sniper rifles are unlocked.
