The SVU (Snaiperskaya Vintovka Ukorochennaya) was developed during the 1970's. It was developed for the airborne Russian troops as a shortened sniper rifle, but never took off. It was resurrected during the 90's as a possible weapon for Russian Internal Affairs in urban combat. The SVU is semi-automatic while the SVU-AS is selective fire. It weighs 4.4kgs with a telescopic scope and empty magazine.

Mechanics
First off, before using the SVU there are several important kits choices to improve your effectiveness with the SVU. Magnum Ammunition makes the SVU a three hit kill over all ranges, which tied in with good accuracy allows you to down 3 enemies per magazine. With the SVU you aren't the head of the attack. You're the flanker and supporter. Use the silencer on your rifle to flank around the enemy and take out foes without revealing your position. Alternatively if you are unable to flank place yourself behind the players pushing your front line, and spot targets as well as killing. Your ghille suit will allow you to hide and take out targets. Motion sensors should always be being used, particularly on the flanks. Over long ranges you should be picking targets off while spacing out your shots, ensuring accuracy in mid-range you can go slightly faster, but try to have a small space if possible (0.3 or so of a second should be enough). In close range if swapping to your pistol is non-viable place your target in the centre of the screen and pump away as fast as possible.

Targeting
The chevrons on the SVU can be mastered with practice, however the SVU performs better with the x4 scope, having less zoom will let you effectively operate at much close distances, bringing yourself into the battle and making your gadgets like C4 and motion sensors useful. The red dot sight can be used effectively, but makes you less effective over mid-range, which is where you want to be. The x12 scope will allow you to operate at longer ranges, but you shouldn't be aiming to operate at that distance.

Role
Remembering to use Magnum Ammunition with the SVU is important. Don't play aggressively, rather sit back spot enemies and help your team eliminate opposition. Remember to use your gadgets in your disposal to aid your team. Don't hunt enemies, and be ready to swap to a pistol for close quarters combat. The REX pistol is nice if you aren't confident in close quarters, the Grach or M9 are good for their ability to finish off targets on low health because of the good rates of fire.
