Tip of The Week #35: Strategy in Reloading

By GhostrideR - 22nd November 2010 - 22:16 PM

A tactical advantage is something that gives you an edge over your enemy. Something that in one way or another makes it easier for you to kill him/her as opposed to the other way around. For example: holding the high ground gives you a tactical advantage because you have the ability to see the enemy's whole body, while they may only be able to see your head. This also puts you in position to call in mortar strikes, mark MCOM's and flags with attack and defend orders and spot enemies without the enemy being able to see you completely. A clear tactical advantage.

Something to keep in mind, while you are fighting the thousands of infantile players wielding Carl Gustav's and M60's with magnum ammo, is tactical reloading. This can also be termed "partial reloading." A tactical reload is just what the name implies. You reload your weapon to give you a tactical advantage.

How many times have you lost count of how many bullets are in your magazine, and then gotten killed by the enemy that got the drop on you while you don't have enough ammo to kill him? You find yourself watching the enemy run another couple of steps and blow one of your team mates to oblivion with his Carl Gustav. You seethe with wrath, partly because this daft enemy likes to play a cheap brand of Battlefield, but mostly because you could have killed him if you had another four or five bullets in your weapon. I, myself, have been killed a number of times after having run out of ammo because I didn't reload my weapon after taking a few of pot shots.

Another thing, that many players may not pay a lot of mind to, is keeping your sidearm fully loaded. Keeping your pistol, or your tracer gun, loaded is very important. You should ALWAYS have that thing topped off just in case. Especially if you are playing as recon. If you watch some of the videos Crush has made, you can see how often his pistol comes into play. The most crucial thing is to make sure that your sidearm is full of ammo before you switch back to your primary. Never ever let your sidearm get put away empty. There aren't many feelings worse than running out of ammo and switching to your pistol only to find that it has to reload before you can shoot. Well, sprinting around a corner and finding a tank barrel pointed at your face is generally worse, but you know what I mean.

So remember class, the next time you hit the Battlefield, remember what uncle GhostrideR told you: Always keep your primary and your sidearm (especially your sidearm) full of ammo whenever possible. I guarantee that this will help you. Just don't reload in the middle of the street. Find a nice quiet, lonely place to reload. You don't want to get knifed whilst preparing to kill more bad guys.

Good luck out there, and I'll see you on the Battlefield!
