Mordor vs Forces of Light on Rohan

By Segway - 13th September 2009 - 21:58 PM

Finding yourself as Mordor against Forces of Light (Gondor/Rohan) on Rohan map in Quick Match is possibly the worst combination you can ever come across in this game. You will find any normal strategy you may use on other maps just gets rolled over by the opponent here. The idea for Forces of Light on this map is to take control of all outside farms and leave you cornered in your base from the very start till they take down that last building of yours.

The goal for Mordor to break this issue is a fast economy boom from early to middle game to keep up with the fact Forces of Light has taken four of four settlements at the start. This guide is vital for Mordor Quick Match players, have a read, it will really help you!

Power Point Progression

The animation below shows the correct power point route:

Eye -> Tainted land -> Industry -> Darkness -> Balrog

This power point route is used because Eye of Sauron is essential for the early Goblin creep you will take and later on for the times you need extra leadership. Tainted Land needs to be chosen so you can progress to Industry. Place it in the middle of the map over a farm spot for extra ground later on. Industry is quite important as it is what keeps your economy steady at the time when you are buying your first few trolls. From there you are going to need Darkness so you can really stack that leadership for countering a fast Aragorn rush or Gandalf trying to Istari you and even combos. Lastly, Balrog is of course the most powerful weapon at finishing a caslte.

Build Order

A strange build order indeed but trust it, this really works - somehow! The two early Slaughterhouses allow you to keep buying Haradrim later on even though you have only one mill. After your Troll cage you have to understand this can become very versatile and what is stated here may not be the best option in some situations. For instance, if you are really ahead at this stage, you can try for quick Mumakil to get his Citadel down before Gandalf gets out.

The picture above is intended to help you follow what building goes where at which point. This is done to minimize the chance of a Slaughterhouse being unprotected by a tower and to get those Haradrim out to the creeps at the right.

If you start from the bottom right spot of the map then rotate the whole thing by 180°.
  • Gollum
  • 1 Slaughterhouse
  • 2 Slaughterhouse
  • 3 Tower (at the choke point)
  • Lumber Mill (at the Goblin lair)
  • 4 Orc Pit
  • 5 Haradrim Palace (4 or 5 Haradrim)
  • 6 Slaughterhouse
  • 7 Tower
  • 8 Slaughterhouse
  • 9 Tower
  • 10 Slaughterhouse
  • Replace Haradrim Palace with Slaughterhouse
  • 11 Troll Cage
  • 4 Trolls, Drummer Troll
  • Outposts (only if you have spare Haradrim to put in the Citadel)
  • Witchking
