Destroying a Forces of Darkness Base with Balrog

By BcVcB - 10th September 2009 - 16:08 PM

This tip shows how to destroy a Mordor or Isengard base with full towers and rebuilding cita with a single Balrog. It is not easy to execute, but with a bit of practise you can do it. Make sure you always use the shortcuts for Balrog's powers. At least for flying and igniting this is essential to make it quicker and easier for yourself.

Summon Balrog next to one of the two front towers so that Balrog will fly over it when it flies towards the Citadel:

Fly to the citadel, but do not just fly somewhere next to it but directly on it. Make sure you use the Ignite power directly after ordering Balrog to fly so it ignites while it is in the air and you do not waste time igniting later. The citadel will be slightly damaged when Balrog lands there:

You will notice that the one tower will be destroyed when you fly over it. Your opponent will start rebuilding it now if he is smart, but that will not be a problem. Hit the Citadel with Balrog's sword once. The Citadel will still have a little health left, but it will be destroyed a few seconds later because it constantly loses health while Balrog stands so close to it. So do not worry that the Citadel is still not destroyed and already place Firebreath as in the screenshot below:

As soon as the first flames come out of Balrog, order Balrog to move so the graphic animation of Firebreath stops. Firebreath will still cause the normal damage: Four buildings plus the tower on the very right on the screenshot are being destroyed:

While those buildings are going down, fly onto the tower between the two middle buildings that are being destroyed by the Firebreath. The tower will be destroyed when you land on it. Again, give the Ignite order. Now move Balrog a bit outside of the base so that it stands more or less in one line with the two next towers and the next building after that.

Fly over the next tower two towers on that building. Both towers will be destroyed in one flight and the building you land on will be slightly damaged. Hit the building next to where you land with the sword once. Depending on how many health points this building has it may still have a little health left, but when you order Balrog to fly over this building and the next tower onto the next building, it will be destroyed while Balrog is above it - just like the tower you will land on. Hit the next building with the sword once. It is again in low health or destroyed:

Fly straight onto the next tower. If the building was not destroyed when you hit it before (haradrim palace in the picture above), will be destroyed when you fly over it and so will the tower you land on. Click the hotkey for igniting right after ordering this flight (but before Balrog starts flying). It will be used directly after Balrog lands. Send your Balrog a bit outside the base again so that it stands about in a line with the tower that you see on the following screenshot and the next tower which is not shown on the screenshot:

As soon as the fly ability is recharged, destroy two towers in one jump again as you did once before. If your opponent has started rebuilding the tower that you destroyed at the very start when you flew over it towards the citadel, use whip to destroy it. You will have the time for it if you did well so far. Now use the recharged Firebreath to destroy the rebuilding Citadel and the two remaining buildings:

If you did everything perfectly, Balrog will even have a few seconds remaining after destroying the base:

If you want to try and practise it yourself, download this save-game, extract the file and save it in the folder which is called "Save". To find this folder, go in the parent folder of the "Replays" folder and you will see there is a folder called "Save". If it isn't there, create a new folder called "Save" there). Then go Singleplayer -> Load -> Skirmish
