West Emnet - Mordor QuickMatch Guide

By EV1L - 17th November 2008 - 01:49 AM

This is one of the more imbalanced maps for Mordor, although you would think the opposite since it has a lot of creeps and three Mills. This is because the bases are very close together, and there are three possible routes for soldiers/horses to go to your Mills. In this guide I will explain several power point routes, build orders and strategies for all possible match-ups.

Mordor vs. Gondor

Power Point Route

Build Orders

Here are two build orders which both include either a second Pit or quick Haradrim for creeping:

First
  • Orc Pit
  • Smeagol
  • Mill
  • Mill
  • Mill
  • Slaughterhouse
  • Slaughterhouse
  • Orc Pit
  • Slaughterhouse
  • Slaughterhouse
  • Slaughterhouse
  • Troll Cage
  • Troll
  • Troll
Second
  • Orc Pit
  • Smeagol
  • Mill
  • Mill
  • Mill
  • Slaughterhouse
  • Slaughterhouse
  • Haradrim Palace
  • Slaughterhouse
  • Haradrim
  • Slaughterhouse
  • Haradrim
  • Slaughterhouse
  • Troll Cage
  • Troll (or Haradrim for creeping)
  • Troll
  • Delete Haradrim Palace, build second Troll Cage
It is possible to take an outpost with a Haradrim horde. If you do so make an extra Orc Pit for harassing his Mills. Remember to never cashfloat, this is essential, especially on hard maps like this one.

Early Game

Buy an Orc Pit and Smeagol. Now in this map it's hard to know where his Soldiers are coming from, but mostly they'll target the settlement closest to the middle, on the right bottom (onhost) or right top (offhost). I always take the Mills behind my base so they're better protected. It's vital to keep at least two Mills against Gondor early game. Use your Orcs to take the back Mills and send Smeagol forward past the one you don't buy and search for the soldiers. If you see him you can either just attack him or lure the Cave Troll out so they get killed. After you've taken out the starting Soldiers, take the third Mill, them build a Haradrim palace after a few Slaughterhouses. Get a few Haradrim and start creeping as fast as you can. Take as many as possible before you get interrupted by horses. You can also take an Outpost where you can make an extra Orc Pit so you can spam more Orcs at his Farms. Get more Slaughterhouses in your base and get up a Troll Cage as soon as possible.

Mid-game

In mid-game the goal is to prevent a horse rush and to slow Gandalf the White down as much as possible. After you get the Troll Cage up, start producing Trolls; after about two or three Trolls delete your Haradrim Palace and replace it with a Slaughterhouse (or a second troll cage). Start producing Trolls from there too, until you have about eight Trolls and two Drummer Trolls. Then get four or five Trolls with trees and three or four with rocks, if you get a second Cage. Otherwise get a Nazgul after four Trolls and a Drummer Troll. Go to his castle, kill a wall, and finish him off. This is where a usual game should end. The player Gondor could prevent this by getting out Gandalf the White earlier then you can finish him (this will most probably happen). This is what the Trolls with rocks are for, group them and number them. Get all the Trolls with rocks close together, push the "Ctrl" button and then a number, for example ''1." Now when you push "1," you will have all the trolls with rocks under your command. Now wait and wait and wait, until you see him using a spell, like Istari Light or Sword of Power. Wait until you actually see him using the spell, not just the beginning, because he could still cancel it. When he can't cancel anymore, cast Eye of Sauron and throw the rocks; if you hit him, no heal can help him. If not, then quickly pick four more stones. In the meanwhile use the other Trolls to kill his base.

Or he can camp; what to do if he's going to camp I will explain in "Late Game." Or the base rushes will damage your economy so much that you will be pushed back in your camp, not having enough Trolls to keep him off. In this case I would advise saving up for a Nazgul, so you can kill off his horses. Just watch out for Gandalf. If he gets combos, mass Trolls with the Witch-King, and kill them off with your mass leadership.

Late Game

If the game runs to late game he's probably camping, or having a large army with Trebuchets, Archers, and horses. Take both outposts, build siege, and siege his base; try not to lose any creatures like Nazgul and Trolls because they give him a lot of power points. His goal is to get the power points for Army of the Dead. Prevent this at all costs. Also don't give him a single Farm, prevent him from getting even the small amount of cash which he needs to camp with, then outspam him with Catapults and kill him off slowly. When he has Eagles, mix one to three combos with your army. When he has a large army make one too, with Trolls, Catapults, and the three Nazgul.
