hi, saw this rep now, very entertaining.

Gondor had 5 pps and gtg, but he dont cast gtw, very good, because so he get eagles, which won this game.

I think earlier catas in mainbase from you, tucke, could help you much. Not so a lot of mordorpikes, more catas.

But well played vs a very clever gondorplayer. Mass trolls with drummers and eye are op, but not vs eagles smile.gif.

vgg

Edit: Wy the gondor build tg+ranger combos? Is in this mu are only ranger or soldier+ranger combos better?

Just as a note, my rep stopped a little while after the balrog.. did someone quit at this point?

Matchup: Gondor v Mordor
Map: South Emnet

jellethegreat (Top)

Strat: BS + Farm > Faramir > 2 Knights > Boromir > Combos > TGs & Rangers > Gandalf
PP Usage: Heal > EW > Elves > Eagles > AOTD

Pros:
  • Soldier formations good at the beginning
  • Got Faramir LD early on
  • Almost levelled Boromir from a warg lair so you got his LD pretty quickly too smile.gif
  • Eagle micro was very good, killed his entire army probably twice over
  • Aggressively took outposts forcing your opponent to waste time and resources taking them down

Cons:
  • Too long to choose initial PP, you should’ve chosen land and placed it immediately after he used the eye
  • Horse micro was awful at times. You should get at least 3 (preferably straight away for the HS). Don’t fight rhunies but run around them to kill labs. Also you lost them far too easily and you desperately needed some more to kill Mordor’s catas.
  • Too negative early on. You should’ve harassed each and every one of his mills, but you seemed too scared to send your horses there.
  • Bought expensive upgrades with just 5 BSs. You had an outpost with farms built, you should’ve replaced one with a BS.
  • Combos were a poor strategic choice as they cost you too much into terms of the forged blade upgrade (which was largely wasted on trolls), and CP. Surely extra rangers and 3 knights would’ve made a bigger difference countering his catas and trolls.
  • Never bought Gandalf the White PP, also didn’t revive Gandalf on one occasion he died. You need to buy GTW to make him a troll and naz killer, plus he can stay alive by running away on Shadowfax when his health is low.
Overall Gameplay: 4

Strat: Pit + Gollum > Haradrim > Rhunies > Trolls > Drummers > WK > Catas
PP Usage: Eye > TL > Inudstry > Darkness > Balrog

Pros:
  • Creeping was good with haras and orcs combined
  • Good use of haradrim formations when creeping and v knights, same goes for Rhuns
  • Good harassment all game with orcs
  • Used Trolls with trees to send boromir and the archers flying on numerous occasion. Often showed greater guile in the earlier battles by using your full LD.
  • Killed his heroes many times

Cons:
  • Cashfloating, particularly at the beginning. Try to use “h” to go straight back to your citadel when in a battle, and then hit the spacebar to return to the action
  • Naïve use of first PP. Don’t cast the eye as usually that will be countered by land, also you casted TL at a point where it was very likely he would have the EW to counter regardless of his first PP choice. My advice? Don’t cast TL ever in this matchup unless he casts wood first.
  • Sometimes let levelled harads and orcs die to his heores unnesecarily, levelling them up. Try to be more vigilant of your minimap and where Faramir is in particular.
  • Forgot to recast industry and darkness on occasions, keep an eye on those PP!. Also didn’t revive WK for a long time.
  • Never bought any archers to counter eagles… cost you your entire army frusty.gif
  • Very lethargic attitude throughout the game. Your first 5 trolls just stood around your base doing nothing, waiting for dummers whilst he took MC. Three, or sometimes even 2 trolls with trees and the eye is enough to overwhelm Boromir or Faramir. Also, you killed his entire army on 2 occasions but both times instead of taking the game to him you sat around in your base trying to build up a bigger army. If your enemy has no army, attack!! More catas would also have helped as he didn’t really have a counter after his knights died.
  • Balrog use, kind of summed up in the last point. Instead of going for the empty base, you should’ve gone for the one with all his buildings and killed half his army! If you’re not sure how to do this, lookup the comic by str8razor or light’s totw.
Overall Gameplay: 4

Comments:
Two players of equal skill produced an entertaining if at times lethargic encounter.

In the early game Mordor did pretty well to only lose 1 mill, although I feel Gondor should have been more aggressive. Send 1 soldier down each side to attack. Your hobbit and 1 soldier could’ve defended the right, leaving your second soldier to attack the left. Also don’t forget to use your first PP after Mordor uses his, you missed a glorious chance to place land anywhere you liked.

Gondor decided not to do the HS rush in the mid game, which seemed a poor decision. You would have been able to creep more with the extra knight, and frankly with Faramir and the elven summon you could quite easily have powered straight to victory. But this negativity saw your opponent build up a considerable army. Gondor had little chance with that LD, and having his knights on the other side of the map when faced with catas did little to help. Mordor at this point was in the ascendancy, but then you decided not to attack for reasons which I cannot understand. You had catas, trolls, wk and yet sat in your base! Try to attack and rebuild at the same time and whatever you do don’t give your enemy a chance back in.

Mordor then made its second biggest mistake, not making any archers. Try to make banner orc/orc archer combos by using bloodthirsty near a drummer, and then adding the archer in. This would’ve won you the game even after letting Gondor rebuild. The final straw was not using the balrog to attack either his units or his full base, but an empty castle! I can understand your frustration at losing the castle, but really even from here you could and should have won buy destroying his full base.

At this point, the replay ended.

Very nice review m8 but i think 4 is a bit harsh for both players. If u compare ratings with other players (in the new rating systhem) 4 is very bad coz 4=3 in old rating system sad.gif
But thanx smile.gif
#9RamRaider  Dec 20 2006, 18:34 PM -
Hmm yeah you might be right, basically if you had bought a couple of archers and he had bought Gandalf the White (2 basic mistakes imo) you would have got 5 definately.
