Ok this replay is to show what a complete joke IsenGard Pikes are. Ok granted they should obliterate 10 times there number of Cavalry because that is what they are designed for, but owning fully upgraded swordsmen in block formation for no loss? And then own TG in Shieldwall on Wood? WTF.gif Hell, my free elves did more damage in hth blush.gif

Case in point this replay sees me going for complete map control and triple pumping Tower Guard onto Elven wood, and IsenGard was still able to hold out with the few pikes he had.

Is there any easy way to defeat Pike spam before the patch hits them; I don’t think so… and they complain about Horseshields mad.gif

My micro was way off on the first Horse rush because of answering some cocky quips this guy made but the replay is still a good platform to illustrate this problem.

Towergaurds own pikes, but r countered by swords.I am much more worried by swordsmen late game themn pikes cause they counter iffantry, they dont die easily to cavalry, and they can climb siege ladders so isen can do a surprise ladder rush.

There was nothing in that replay that showed pikemen owning towerguards. The times when the pikes whooped the TG was when the pikes had greater numbers. Obviously pikes are owerpowered in general, and they do well vs tower guard, but they in no way "own" the TG in sheild formation. Pikes are ain't horse units, and Tower Guards are also anit-cav, to an extent. So the two are, in a way, the same type of troop. So if one costs more to upgrade, it doesn't completly defy logic that one does well vs the other. I agree that the pikes should do less damage, since they have so many more shiny blades that one toop unit of Gondor, but they should really be somewhat evenly matched with tower guards.
Gondor vs isen is pretty balanced, even with the powerful pikes. Gandalf +tower guards surrounding him should kill pikes pretty easily. You just can't let the pikes surround gandy, and if they try to attack onyl gandalf, they will have to get around, or through, your tower guard wall.

and Hell Spawn, I would have to say that the best counter is the formation of pikes and swordmen (if you're strapped for cash somewhat). I agree with that wall rush comment though. Gondor has awalys got to be prepared for that one. Best idea is to keep Pippin ahead of where you think the ladder might come from.

PLAYERS: Powerhouse (GON) vs Whiteknigh (ISE)
MAP: Fords of Isen

SYNOP: On the contrary I really didn't see TWG getting owned by pikes....But the match ended early....

Powerhouse] BO; 1 farm & 1 BS

-IMO go faramir if going cav initially
-over extended on north OP, but no factor
-spend the $, but no factor game called "on rain"

+nice quick rush with footies
+nice keep raid to destroy armory

Whiteknigh] BO; 2 furnace

-Uruks vs cav bad, less lots of combined
-pit and armory should be back, not front
-should have attk north OP sooner, but let him gather
-needed taint land sooner, waited to 4 pwr points
-lurtz needs spt vs gondor

+killed gandy thumb.gif
+good pike placement in the river crossings

OVERALL: Wish the match would have went longer, could have been interesting, but if the match would have drugged out it could have been really ugly for ISE.
