i can only tell you my side of the story not Archies and also why i think it did deserve replay of the week.. here goes...

when the load up screen came up i saw he was random, how do you start vs a random player on that smallest of the maps?
i was weighing my options up before the game started and decided on this..

pit/sh/gollum/tower

if he was gondor or rohan .. creep the nearest goblin quick and make mill, then with my level 2 and level 3 orcs and gollum, along with my new pit orcs i would try and get some mc before horses came.
if he was mordor at least i could get my gollum moving and would have time to cancel the sh and try something else,
if he was isengard i was basically screwed as uruks would be on me before i could do anything.

so i chose a start that would have been ok vs 3 of the 4 factions.

i was wrong though and usually would have just started 2 pits and a tower if i knew he was definitley isen, this is very hard to beat and swamped the map with orcs hopefully stopping him making any mills at all and gradually building and creeping around the map myself,
as it happened when he got to my base he pulled one pit down before i had chance to cancel the sh and get the second pit producing properly, plus i had bought gollum and had no tower money.
basically i only had a few seconds to start the build order i chose and do the wall trick before i was attacked.

then i just went for him with what i had and managed to damage him so badly that we was both left with nothing but i had to retreat when i knew that i didnt have the orcs to finish and we both had to start all over again,

right or wrongly,i put them 4 towers up in my base when i did instead of making a pit because i just didnt know how far his economy had recovered and what units he had made since the last time i was near his base, i thought all those towers would have made him retreat whatever rushing units he had made when he would have seen them.

full of mistakes i know, the biggest one was my noob use of darkness when rain was active and not protecting catas properly, but in my defence i can honestly say that in 2 years of playing ive hardly ever come to that stage of a game before against an isen where rain and darkness has both been involved so wasnt sure of the effects and was totally inexperienced in this situation.

ive told you the game from my side and archie could tell you his if he wanted too, we can all pick holes in any replay if we sat there with a pen and paper in hand but to to be really fair he had nothing after the first few minutes and built a full army up and still owned the game, that takes a lot of doing and skill imo...

a very worthy rotw in my eyes from both sides of the game,me recovering against a random isen on the worst of maps it could happen on and him building from scratch and showing the ability to ultimatley go on and win the game.

i thought for the entertainment value alone it deserved more than a 5, ive seen a lot worse games than this get a 6 or even 7

I agree 100% with you Grish.

Game is far from being perfect.
Rotw isnt about skill.
Its about entertainement value.

QUOTE
we both had to start all over again

I think our recoveries were paralell to each other, in terms of economy.

Ps. In QM, random is like 60% of the time isen.
