Major (Rohan) v StoneLord (Rohan)

Map: Fords of Isen

----------------------------------------

Major (Rohan)
Build Order: 2 Farms + Merry, Farms, Stables, Rohirim, Rohirim Archers, Archery Range, Yeomen, Theoden, Fire, Armoury, Outpost x 2[Well, Statue, Farm], Banner, Heavy Armour, Forged Blades, Eomer, Legolas, Ents, Treebeard
PP: Draft, Heal, Elven Allies, Elven Wood

thum.gif Rohirim Archers in wedge.
thum.gif Excellent fast Archery Range and upgrades.
thum.gif Good creeping with Theoden, got G.C. easily.
thum.gif Destroyed farms before capture to deny opponent the experience.
thum.gif Good formation use for Yeomen.
thum.gif Yeomen garrissoned in the outpost citadels.

sad.gif Don't think you needed all 3 wells.

Comments: An excellent performance. There is an advantage at the start for Rohan in the position of the external farms on this map when you start on the West side because the farm plots are close together and it makes them easier to defend with the peasants and also easier to get more peasants in the same area quickly. This only really applies if you use peasants of course so without them it is still easy to lose the harassment battle. Nothing in the initial phases of the match surprised me.

The fast archery Range was good, getting the Yeomen and on to fire very quickly helped you get a sustained upper hand in the match. After that StoneLord always seemed one step behind. The micro from both of you was good quality but the loss of the initial harassment fight always seemed to leave StoneLord lagging behind you and eventually the disparity became too much and he was locked inside his castle.

The defence of the outposts was very good. The yeomen in the citadel bought you just enough time every time to allow them to survive until reinforcements arrived. I am not sure that you needed the wells there because it made 3 wells in total. It didn't leave you lacking for anything but you might have preferred another statue.

The siege was OK. It started cleanly but degenerated a bit into a series of false charges and a little too much caution for a proper clean ending. Quite rightly, you were cautious of teh amount of leadership bonus hovering around. Theoden, statue, wall banner. All of these made the siege hard to break. in the end StoneLord felt he had no option but to surrender.

thum.gif Nice Merry micro.
thum.gif Nice creep steal.
thum.gif Rohirim Archers in wedge.

sad.gif Postern gate position, in the line of siege.

Comments: To be honest I think you didn't get the easiest side of the map to defend and that translated into a hard game for you because you didn't do so well out of the harassment battle. If you had managed to get a farm of Major's down then it might have evened things up.

Major had a lighning fast Archery Range and fire and used this advantage to get more map control and therefore more resources and get further ahead. This is how things continued until, in the end, he had a clear advantage in unit experience because he had managed to kill your troops in the odd skirmish and so in a straight fight he would have won if you had stood and fought it out.

Your play was quite good. Micro was good and the strategy was the same as Majors'. Mirrors often go like this, where each person has the same strat and one just has an easier time executing it because of the loss of the harassment battle at the start.

Match Comments

A typical Rohan mirror. Not that much separating the opponents in terms of skill. A Replay of the Week Contender because of the quality of the play.

I am not going to Shoutcast this match. Rohan mirror's would have me spending a lot of time trying to find jokes to fill the frequent silent periods between inteesting comments.
