Overview
A well balanced game, which went back and forth, but was ultimately decided by who made the most mistakes. A lot of battles, with units being thrown against one another, more a contest of numbers than micro it seemed a lot of the time. Overall quite an entertaining game, well played guys.
NoobIsTHeWord / Gondor
This can be a really annoying start by Isen to deal with, what I would recommend is to try and place the wood over the creeps farm spot, then leave your soldiers there, but keep faking to move them out so he will have to keep uruks there to guard. You moved off the wood and got owned by his uruks. If you can keep your soldiers alive then this really screws up Isen’s pike spam so he will be forced to deal with them. Try not to cash float at the beginning, wasn’t over serious but it definitely slowed you down. You did some good spying with pippin in his base, but may have been more useful to have him attacking lumber’s at his mill. I though that your creeping was very good getting 5/6 but you didn’t harass him at all which allowed him to get a good economy going. However you got elves and proceeded to do a nice HS rush, taking out a lot of his base, and got his pit down . However after this he got saruman, which was very unusual for that stage of the game and you failed to handle him effectively, just avoid him, there is no need to attack him since he has limited effect due to his speed, you lost 2 of your fully uped knights to him after he used grima and this really set you back. When your getting soldiers split them up and you could have taken most of the map, have 2 soldiers and one tower guard, one along top the other along the bottom. For me the moment his all fell apart for you was getting stone works, I was thinking to my self wtf, you were in a winning position why camp ? If you had got combos, with the brothers I think that it would have been gg. However because you camped, this invited the siege, which luckily for you was poorly organised so you could easily defend, however the mines gave you a lot of problems, so they need some work on defending aginst. The key thing to remember is that when they have been placed they are no longer automatically targeted, and anything previously told to attack wont, because of this you have to be very aware of where they are, try and use treb’s bombard option, and judge where he will lay it and attack that way. Through seiging you managed to get all your pp’s ad there were several occasions where you could have finished the game. You seemed to waste AOD on his Balrog, which was not really doing much dame to your base, if you had used AOD to attack his base with your 2 fully uped knights and rohirrim summons you would have easily taken him out, so try not to be forced into a position where you are using AOD defencivly.
Mistakes / Things to improve
• Try and harass his mills with knights earlier • Don’t fight saruman with melee troops, only with archers • Get combos and brothers, they really are good against isen, and if you like back these up with trebs • When you get soldiers out, split them up to take mc and kill pikes off • Work on dealing with mine attacks • Try and be aggressive with AOD, take the fight to him.
MessU / Isen
A nice different start catching him out, and from here did well, killing off all his soldiers and getting both his farms down. I think that instead of your last 2 uruks may have been better getting a xbow batt, since knights were out so just sending the uruks to die. Did some good scouting with a labourer to see when he was coming. When your pikes come out, go to your far mill first then your near one, and when you start spamming, try and use one with WC to get a creep and extra mill, he ended up getting 5/6 creeps giving him elves which were a real pain for you. Imo I would have gone ups before wargs, if you are going wargs you need to get them much earlier, they were relatively useless, and you lost them all. It was very unusual to get saruman so early, and you would have been in real trouble had he got combos, however he failed to deal with him effectively and he caused alto of damage. I think that you could have saved you pit, if you had used grima on his knights instead of blasting them, but then next time they came in you did a nice grima and killed 2 of them off which really hurt him. When it came to the siege I can only call it a shambles, you need to have pike-xbow combos, a few pikes and a couple of uruks and then you need to guard your ballista’s. You didn’t do this at all. You did some nice work with bombs blowing up his wall however try to send them in groups of 3+ to ensue at least one gets there and if they all do will do a lot more damage. One of the things letting you down at this stage was that you had pikes at mills but hadn’t bought the mills back so your economy was very weak. After your stream of units, you managed to get the Balrog, however you need to work on microing him, your first fire breath only killed one black smith . What you need to is fly in next to citadel, ignite, then attack citadel, should only take one hit, then use fire breath on the buildings at the back etc… In the end you managed to keep enough pressure on him, making him use AOD defensively and saving your own base, well played.
Mistakes / Things to improve
• Try and creep faster • Get ups before wargs, or wargs much earlier • Don’t lose wargs, they are very useful, try and get palentire to chase down injured knights. • Saruman was too early, though you used him well in the circumstances • Use sarumans rank up • Get pike xbow combos and guard your siege, don’t rush, wait till your completely ready • Buy back your mills • Work on your Balrog micro
