[R] [Review] Blunder vs Bots

#1general grievous^  Mar 19 2007, 19:39 PM -
I played this cw yesterday and I thought it was pretty good. I took the advantage in early game for a few minutes and he turned the tables on me in a hurry and I thought I was in trouble. I'm extremely rusty in this mu, having played Mordor in 1on1 for so long I kinda forgot some stuff I think so I would like a full review. This guy said that his gr name is Pil when I asked him towards the end of the game blink.gif

Starting positions:
P2B|Blunder` - Northwest
[AA]Robot - Southeast

Overview:

A rather risky start on both sides but Isen's fires first and continues to play aggressive. Things are looking very grim for one of these players during mid game but a suprise turn-around happens when it is least expected. This replay shows how important why a constant, not only an initial, but a constant pike spam is essential.

P2B|Blunder` - Gondor

I would agree going to stable if you have 5 farms total, however the farm was on his side and you should have known that his uruks were going to take it down quickly. You lost your 5th farm quickly and crippled your economy (not something you want vs. Isen). Your opponent was very aggressive and imo, you needed to be just as aggressive. The only economy buildings he had were 2 mills on his side, and 1 or 2 on your own. You would have taken down at least one mill and forced him to keep his first pikes on his side of the map if you sent your first horses over there. Your soldiers need to be quicker as you can do alot of early damage on Isen if he has slow wargs (anytime before HS). Apart from some micro, you played a very good/smart game. You picked a very good time to attack his base and had a good defense for your own.

How to Improve

  • BO. If you know your 5th farm is going to be destroyed rather quickly, go with another inside to make that 5th. Also, quicker soldiers can be very damaging to Isengard.
  • Micro. Your horses were a little jittery during early game especially near his mills. You are a proven player and am sure you were just having an off day.
  • PP usage. Try to split up your elves so you can do more damage in multiple areas and make him purchase more pikes.

[AA]Robot - Isengard

You played a very aggressive but risky start. The pit, one mill start leaves your economy very vulnerable and if he were to send his first horses to your mills, you were in big trouble. Refer to the Isengard vs. Gondor Strategy Forum here for help on your starting BO. Since you had so many uruks on his side, don't forget you could have creeped with 1-2 WC'd uruks. Your initial pike spam was very good but once your pikes were being diminshed, do not forget you need more pikes. A constant pike spam is important for hold map control. Never give up your economy to your opponent. Your PP route also hurt you quite a bit. Choosing land second is highly reccommended. You can also refer to the link I gave you for tips on this subject as well.

How to Improve

  • Weak BO. Try to balance out having a economy oriented/aggressive start (one less risky than the one you did as a more aggressive Gondor would have given you alot more problems).
  • MC. You always need resources and the last thing you want to do is give your opponent resources. To obtain this, you need a constant pike spam.
  • PP route. Again, refer to the link as it will help you with various aspects of this MU.
  • Upgrades. Do not forget banners. They should always be second or third on your list. They give your units regeneration, more health, and more life.
  • Judgment. Don't rush to try and kill him when your army was not fully upgraded (banners are very important once again), and you did not have map control. You also left your base practically ungaurded.

Overall Rating: 5
