Over an hour of play, rohan going fast rohirrim and then fellowship. Isen tried to go FU uruks and few pikemen just avoiding the heros and keeping rohirrim from the mills.

First ladder attack to rohan's castle failed by the smallest of margins an then the fellowship slowly took over. Aragorn reached lvl10 at the end so there was little hope for isen.

Very intense game, i believe there were a few mistakes on my part (isen) but otherwise a very gg.

If someone has the time please review.

To The Last Blade ...

The Rohan fastness of Dunharrow was the scene for this impressive and bloody battle between TheTrogdor's Fellowship and Saruman's lieutenant Lurtz (niloksim), with Isengard holding the north and Rohan the south. Neither foe spared the other any quarter, and the ground was soaked in the blood of man, horse and uruk alike by the time the last building fell.

Preparation

niloksim expanded to the settlement just north of his base with his starting uruks, and then headed straight to harrass TheTrogdor's economy leaving other settlements to be claimed by labourers. TheTrogdor in turn expanded and sent peasants north to destroy niloksim's mills. An early clash destroying one of the Rohan settlements left Isengard with a weakened unit of uruks, which was used to scout the Rohan base. niloksim was preparing for a Rohirrim and Theoden rush, with crossbowmen creeping wargs in order to gain fast pikemen. Indeed, Rohirrim warriors were soon on the field of battle trampling uruks, and it seemed that TheTrogdor was just another Theoden-slave.

The Surprise

With pikemen at settlements and uruks raiding settlements and frequently clashing with peasants, the first arrow from Legolas certainly was an unpleasant surprise as the Hawk Strike decimated most of a unit of pikemen. Closely followed by Gimli and then Aragorn, the two of the three troll creeps on the map were destroyed and an Isengard attack on Rohan's southeast outpost was successful because the Fellowship was too far to save it. Having prepared for Rohirrim, niloksim rapidly adapted by recruiting Lurtz and making more Uruk warriors rather than pikemen, although units of pikemen did accompany each raiding party.

Isengard's Anger

niloksim was not daunted by the Fellowship, and wasted little time in bringing a ladder to TheTrogdor's castle and attempting to swarm it with uruk-hai with Lurtz on the battlements. Only a rebuilding citadel and a stable remained by the time the last uruk fell to Aragorn's blade and Legolas felled Lurtz ... but good micro from TheTrogdor and a concentration on buildings by niloksim meant that the Fellowship had gained experience from the fight and still had a sizeable army of Rohirrim and Rohirrim Archers to raid with.

"We Must Take The Battle To Them"

Now, with the Isengard forces in tatters and the Fellowship with their cavalry having survived, the battle was taken to Isengard. Raiding groups of cavalry roamed the map destroying settlements, whilst Isengard outposts fell to Gimli's axe and Anduril and Legolas sniped at units of pikemen. At one point the Prince of Mirkwood almost fell after being crippled, but a force of ents that appeared out of nowhere crushed the uruks trying to slice him up and Isengard was forced to flee the field. Several more attempts by niloksim to bring stealthy siege to Rohan's walls failed as Rohirrim spotted the ladders or rams and destroyed them. The time came when the Fellowship, bolstered by healthy map control and several outposts, headed into the Isengard base ...

"There's Lurtz, he'll know what to do ... "

But, as they did so, Lurtz led another force of Uruks into the Rohan base. Gallanted charges by Rohirrim failed to crush the heavily-armoured uruks, and forged blades made mincemeat of the wooden buildings even as Anduril sliced through the Isengard stonework. Lurtz's forces finished the Rohan base as Aragorn and Gimli ran around wiping out the remnants of half-built towers in the Isengard base. Then both sides went clockwise around the map, and it was here that niloksim's early destruction of the Rohan base paid dividends. For, as the Fellowship - now with the power of the Oathbreakers - destroyed the Isengard outpost with ease, niloksim was able to build a new outpost in the ruins of the Rohan one he had just destroyed. In contrast, TheTrogdor was too poor to do so. As the last Rohan building fell, the Fellowship, fully upgraded Rohirrim, and four ents were tearing at niloksim's last two buildings.

Isengard held Dunharrow.

Player Reviews

TheTrogdor

Negatives
- The troll pit in the lower right hand corner of the map remained untouched, and Gimli could have creeped it for Slayer comfortably whilst Aragorn destroyed that settlement.
- An outpost was built in the east whilst the Fellowship was creeping in the west, providing Isengard with easy power points and hurting your economy.
- Right at the end, Legolas would have been best served hunting down Isengard's remaining forces rather than helping Aragorn and Gimli destroy buildings. His arrows don't hurt stone, but if he could have killed one or other units of uruks with Lurtz the game would have been Rohan's.

Positives
+ Fast Rohirrim gave the impression that you were just another Theoden user, however Legolas and the Fellowship are an able addition on this pikemen-friendly map that also contains troll pits ...
+ Rohirrim micro and hero micro was mostly excellent. I didn't see one member of the Fellowship die.
+ The ent rescue of Legolas - surrounded by forged blade uruks - was superb, saving you a hero and allowing you to destroy an outpost in one fell swoop.
+ Quick reactions to Isengard's attempts to sneak siege equipment and uruks to your base after the first attack did so much damage, and excellent trampling when they did get in.

niloksim

Negatives
- Lurtz should have made an effort to kill Legolas during the first siege on Rohan's base, instead he shot buildings and Rohirrim.
- One squad of uruks not used in the first assault could have destroyed all of Rohan's settlements and destroyed his economy.

Positives
+ Seperate furnaces at the start in case of peasant rush.
+ Aggressive scouting with uruks and hitting of early Rohan economy.
+ Good planning for the predicted Rohirrim and Theoden, with crossbowmen to kill wargs and fast tech to pikemen. When that wasn't forthcoming you reacted well to the Fellowship, with more uruks and Lurtz.
+ Good persistent sieging.
+ Stealth sieging.
+ Labourers in towers to ensure Legolas couldn't sit in them and snipe and to allow you to view the map.
+ Auto-cripple on Lurtz to find Merry when battles with the Fellowship weren't imminent.

Summary

TheTrodgor:
Strategy: 8 out of 10. Good telegraphing of Theoden to disguise a Fellowship strategy, excellent avoidence of a pikemen-trap map, excellent counters to niloksim's uruk-heavy army and building horse archers, rohirrim and heroes to ensure niloksim really had to mix his troops.
Adaptability: 8 out of 10. Ents saved Legolas, Rohirrim trampled siege attacks and destroyed rams and fled to ensure the Fellowship could continue elsewhere, scouted map for stealth siege, came back from having only one building in base, a citadel, and an outpost. Crucially didn't get Legolas to leave Gimli and Aragorn sieging the base and go and destroy Lurtz's forces.
Micromanagement:
Micromanagement: 9 out of 10. Rarely lost cavalry to pikes, excellent harrassment of settlements, good use of Fellowship to support each other to avoid losing them, good trampling of uruks by going through at angles to avoid getting bogged down.

niloksim:
Strategy: 7 out of 10. A standard anti-Theoden strategy would have doomed you, but your strategy altered smoothly to concentrate on uruks and continuous assaults ensured that TheTrogdor had to use his cavalry to keep scouting near his base rather than harrassing your lumbermills which bought you time when you needed it.
Adaptability: 9 out of 10. Expecting Theoden, but you coped with the Fellowship - just. Lurtz was worth his weight in gold, and you took advantage of the fact that the Fellowship needed to stick together to beat your army, and if they were beating your army they weren't destroying your base - wherever the Fellowship were, you had at least one force making mischief elsewhere to force the cavalry to react to you.
Micromanagement: 9 out of 10. Lurtz was preserved beautifully. Mostly uruk-hai were without much pikemen support so they got trampled a lot, but they always had heavy armour when needed and they survived. At the end, you were just that bit more careful to ensure you could rebuild an extra outpost as you wiped out the Rohan outposts.

Both players score 8 out of 10.

Overall game gets a 9 out of 10 - the extra point is for sheer entertainment value.

Reviewer notes:

I'll say that I was very despondent when I downloaded the replay, after reading it was over an hour long and between two people I'd never heard of. However, I didn't feel the urge to fast forward once, and I found it thoroughly entertaining, worthy of some extra time giving the review. This replay is promoted to Silver, on the grounds of entertainment value. I've also put it forward for Gold as it deviates from standard build orders, is very close, and the mistakes made by both sides were small ones. It was even named properly as both a file and a BfME title. Not a 'Last Replay'. Yay.

trustworthy

Real great game from both sides but niloksim knew how to handle the situation of advanced rohan army with Aragorn, Gimli and Ligolas having their higher ranks. That was remarkable

GG guyz

Till now this game deserves the competition
