Battle for Middle Earth 2 1.06

[R] Great Gobs vs. MoTw fun game!

I haven't played 1.06 in about oh 2 1/2 months now. I decided to play some on the QM labber. Got the rank 300 guy, decent player got the quick upper hand on me. Used forward tunnel to get the outpost, tried to do a little bit of creative things, to be different. Not sure if they saved me or not, but none the less a great and fun game. Please review, hope you enjoy the watch!

Starting positions:
yallaerew (Men of the West) - West
NORTONator (Goblins) - East

Overview:

A very entertaining match between two skilled players. Constant action throughout, and a good match to watch if you're a Goblin player having trouble beating the Men of the West soldier spam.

yallaerew

You didn't do much wrong in the earlygame, your forward barracks penned him in his base and your stances and clumping were mainly spot on, the main mistake I thought you made was cashfloating. You had him right where you wanted him at one point, but during the transition from early to mid game, you had about 1600 just sitting there doing nothing. I'd suggest you invest in, for example, some rangers, to keep the comstant pressure on him. I think you need to keep a better eye on your heroes too, we've all done it though... ordered a hero to attack a retreating unit, then forgot about him... only to find out he ran straight into the enemy's base and got slaughtered... Just keep an eye out for your heroes.
  • Don't cashfloat. Make your money work for you, so you can keep up the harrassment.
  • Try and always have SOMETHING to protect your base with near your fort. The warning signs were there when you got lucky from the cave troll, but especially vs goblins you should always try to have some form of protection.
  • Make sure you kill the rubble completely. You didnt on one occasion, and it transformed into a mine soon after.
  • Try to creep. That could have given you the economy boost you needed to get Aragorn to take down his fort.
Faction2/Player2/Team2

From the late-early game onwards you played very well. Your stances were pretty much spot on, and you clumped your wildmen summon ridiculously... his fort was down unbelievably fast. The forward mine was a very nice idea, and allowed you to capture that outpost, especially useful as he had you more or less pinned back inside your base. You were slightly fortunate that his initial handful of soldier battallions went towards your base instead of down towards your tunnel network, but you dealt with his towers and forward barracks very well. The cave troll idea was interesting, and very unlucky- it would have worked if Boromir hadn't picked that time to enter the fight... but in the end it backfired and turned out to be a waste of resources. You might want to consider building the fissure closer to your base, that way you wouldn't have had to demolish it, plus some cave trolls would have come in handy against the soldier spam.
  • Mount Gorkill when moving around the map
  • Be careful with your cave trolls, they are too expensive to throw away cheaply.
  • Try and ensure you can protect any forward buildings you create, even a tower is better than nothing.

Woo, thank you. I guess I haven't lost to much from my old 1.06 days.
