Mordor vs. Dwarves

By Maru - 18th December 2009 - 16:53 PM

Midgame

Overview:
This part of the game is where Mordor has the advantage. After surviving the initial attacks, wearing down the enemy's economy, and purchasing forged blades, you are in an excellent position to beat anything dwarves will throw at you. Corsairs with blades can easily drop an enemy hero and your Nazgul, and maybe a Fellbeast, will easily be able to kill any armies and Battlewagons.

Standard Strategy:
You should be harassing almost exclusively at this stage in the game. You should be making lots of Easterlings and Corsairs. Make use of their speed advantage and press the attack. If your opponent has a Forge built, it will hurt him a lot to lose it before he can get many Battlewagons out. Your main goal for this point in the game is to gain map control. Dwarves rely on map control to win their games; it is very hard for them to win when they do not have it. You will also want to control both inns, so that your opponent cannot spam hobbits. You should be scouting the entire map, by sending your units everywhere and constantly expanding around your base and along the sides of the map. If you can keep up the advantage, it can be a good time to win right after using your bombardment power on the opponent's Fortress.

Priorities:
  • Prepare for hobbit summon.
  • Keep your Nazguls alive.
  • Control the inns.
  • Destroy forward mines.
  • Destroy base mines.
  • Take as little damage to your base as possible.
  • Maintain as strong of an economy as possible to support your spam.
Unit Mixing: Warriors, Archers, Corsairs, Easterlings, Forged Blades

You will want to make a Haradrim Palace early and creep, before your opponent is able to make Battlewagons. You should creep with a couple of Easterlings and then make some more when you see your opponent's Forge or Battlewagons. Make Nazgul and Corsairs with your creep money. Do not bother buying Corsairs without forged blades, unless you need units fast for defense. Instead, make one or two Corsairs and then upgrade your Tavern to level two and purchase forged blades. The exception to this would be when you are Corsair rushing. You will need at least four or five Corsairs before forged blades then. You should be mixing Easterlings with Corsairs at this stage in the game, for harassment. You should mix some Orc Archers in, as needed, for harassment and help with fighting opposing units. You can also make some more Orc Warriors, whenever you have extra command points for them.

Heroes: 2 Nazguls

Once your Nazgul is level 2, it has the Dread Visage power. This debuffs the enemy units and cancels out rallying call. This is extremely helpful for fighting Dwarven infantry. Even if your Nazgul is on low health or the enemy army is heavily made up of pikes, you can just take your Nazgul off of his horse and stand him near the battle, out of harms way. This will really help you win important battles. Whenever there are no major battles going on, your Nazgul should be out harassing resource buildings. Always be careful not to let them die to pikes though. If it seems too risky to have your Nazgul harassing, you can dismount them and keep them with your army.

Powerpoints: Industry, Barrage

Industry is a very strong but risky power in this match up. It can be very helpful with giving you extra resources for heroes and upgrades, but Dwarves have very strong siege and can destroy buildings faster than any other faction, so it can hurt you greatly if they destroy your Slaughter House with industry on it. Bombard should normally come after Industry. You should either use it on a large army of Dwarves or use on the opponent's base right before you attack them. It can be a game ender, combined with forged bladed units.
