Elves vs. Goblins BT2DC

Late-Game

Overview

As late game begins to roll around, Goblins begin to have the upper hand. Units like upgraded Half Trolls will hit the field, and powerpoint powers will soon be in short supply. The only way to survive and win at this point is to make good use of your units. Minimize all losses; your units are expensive but very durable. Mithlond Sentries with Heavy Armour in porcupine stance should prove very formidable, while Mirkwood Archers fire into the enemy's ranks. Save Farsight for the big kills, such as heroes, especially Drogoth. The Eagle will also be an important aspect of the game. You should upgrade your Fort both for the protection and to recruit the Eagle. As long as you have your Eagle and Eagle summon at hand, you should easily control the sky. Now, you should be trying to contain the Goblin player while getting ready to unleash a strong combination of powers, such as Flood, Mist, and Ents. If it gets to a point where powerpoint powers won't suffice to break the Goblin's Fort, you must build an Ent Moot. Recruit two Ents and Treebeard, and use these three giants to throw rocks on the Goblin's Fort while your army protects them.

You should have purchased Thranduil and Elrond at this point. If either of these two heroes reach rank ten, they will greatly bolster your chances. Use Elrond's Farsight to constantly keep an eye on the enemy's movements, saving the Farsight powerpoint for the range boost. You can use it to keep one side ford under it's watch, while sending a Mirkwood to stealth and scout the other. This way, you can intercept any attacks and prevent a surprise attack on your Fort. Silverthorn Arrows will also be crucial for the simple fact they negate the Goblin's best powers and units, both the Balrog and the Goblin's Dragon can be killed with Silverthorn Arrows. They also make Mirkwood Archers all the more potent. You should also have one or two Lorien Warriors mixed into your army to chase down heroes and damage Half Trolls.

To win late game against Goblins, you will need to persevere. Once you've repelled their attacks and have your powers and units ready, strike and hit hard, with the Fort as your priority. If that is implausible, damage him in any way while taking minimal hits yourself.

Priorities:
  • Buy Thranduil. He is excellent for taking down Spider Riders and heroes. He is especially useful against Drogoth with his massive range.
  • Kill Gorkil's Skull Totem. It can be targeted and will often die to the slightest damage, considerably lessening Goblin's leadership.
  • Mirkwood Archers & upgraded Mithlond Sentries should be the bulk of your army @ this point.
  • If Glorfindel is level ten, use his Starlight power to stun Spider Riders as they prepare to charge, leaving them susceptible to archer fire.
  • Always have a backup army. One good Watcher Summon can cause major damage, so don't keep your entire army in one place.
  • Protect high leveled resource buildings at all costs. They are crucial to keep up your command points.
  • If Drogoth is giving you trouble, you can always summon Eagles on top of him. The two Eagles should be able to take him down. There uses would have otherwise been limited, as the opponent most likely has an upgraded Fort by now.
  • Level up your production buildings to increase their health/buildtimes and acquire an arrow tower. It's fairly cheap and pays off well in the long run.
  • Don't be overrun. You need to keep up with him as best you can and prevent him from getting a massive amount of units.
  • You should get three Barracks at this point, regardless of whether you need them or not. If a Barracks is lost or you get hit by a Watcher, you need a way to rebuild fast.
  • Consider the Enchanted Mist upgrade to both conceal your healing units and to defend the homeland.
  • Buy Encasing Vines and Crystal Moat upgrades for the Fort, and build Wall Hubs where there is space. This will cause your Fort to be incredibly hard to take down.

Powerpoints:

You should be moving quickly on the powerpoint tree, aiming for the 25 powerpoint powers. Flood is great at damaging buildings and killing fort expansions, while Sunflare obliterates units. Pick and choose depending on your situation.
