Men of the West Overview
Soldiers of GondorSoldiers can be a surprisingly difficult and annoying infantry unit to face, mainly because they cost very little and build quickly, making it easy for them to outspam and outrun your Uruks. Attacking them with your Crossbows and Wargs will work wonders here.
Gondor ArchersGondor Archers are pretty good in this match up because they are slightly better than Uruk Crossbows because they have a faster firing rate, even though Crossbows do more damage. Everything Isengard has to offer can counter Gondor Archers--Crossbows, Warriors, Pikes, Bezerkers, Wargs, you name it.
Tower GuardsTower Guards are Men's standard pikeman unit, and are good ones at that. Despite their slow speed, they can dominate creeps and can completely destroy resource buildings and production buildings. Use Uruk Warriors or Pikemen to deal with Tower Guards.
Gondor KnightsGondor Knights are a very good cavalry unit. Even though they do little melee damage, they have high health and great trample damage. They can easily run over any non-pike units, so use pikes or heroes to deal with them.
RangersRangers are very strong tier 2 archers at Men of the West's disposal. They fire very quickly, and can use Long Shot at level 2, so watch out. Their arrows don't do much damage to Uruk Warriors, but can do a lot to Crossbows because of their low health, and they take a while to fire. Use your Warg Riders to counter these guys.
RohirrimRohirrim are insanely good cavalry units, and they are better than Knights in regards to speed, melee damage, and their splash damage. However, they are pretty expensive and have low health. Pikemen or heroes should be gotten to deal with them, for they dominate anything else you can throw at them. Always be careful if you see a level 2 Stables, because Rohirrim can dominate an undefended base and will kill everything.
TrebuchetTrebuchets are only used if you are camping, or if they want to finish you off. Don't worry about them, for they are rarely seen. They are very good against buildings, but suck against everything else.
AragornA very strong hero, he provides leadership, does splash damage and also has a healing ability similar to arwen and elrond. Pikes, lurtz , and wormtounge are good counters because of lurtz cripple and carnage abilities.
BoromirBoromir is a great early game hero because of his leadership and his Horn of Gondor. He also has the knockback ability. A few battalions of Uruk Warriors, Pikemen, or Bezerkers can counter him easily. Lurtz is also a good choice if you use his Cripple and Carnage abilities in tandem so that Boromir cannot escape.
FaramirFaramir is a good ranged hero for Men of the West. His Wounding Arrow can cause enemy monsters to flee, and he also provides defense leadership. Use Bezerkers or heroes to take him out.
EomerEomer can be a very annoying hero in this match up. He can decimate Wargs with Spear Throw. Eomer also provides Men's already strong cavalry with defense leadership, making them even stronger. Kill him with pikes if he's mounted, or Beserkers if he's unmounted. Lurtz is also a good counter.
EowynEowyn is just as strong as Eomer, and like him, her Smite ability owns clumped units and cavalry. Kill her with pikes if she's mounted, or swordsmen, Berzerkers, and/or Lurtz if she's unmounted.
TheodenTheoden is yet another great early game hero. He provides leadership for both infantry and cavalry units. Once he reaches level 5 however, you
must kill him as soon as possible, because his Glorious Charge ability makes cavalry nearly invincible, meaning he can easily run into your base with a few battalions of Rohirrim and kill pretty much everything.
Gandalf the WhiteDandalf is a very strong and powerful hero, who is very expensive as well. His powers are very dangerous against units. Wizard Blast can annihilate large numbers of Uruks, and his Lighting Sword ability destroys production buildings in just a few seconds. Lurtz and Wormtounge are a good counter to him, and fully upgraded Uruk Warriors and Berserkers are a good choice as well.
