Welcome to a new Tip of the Week! So, this week: Waypointing!
Most players have heard of waypoints, but only a few actually use them. They can be helpful for all three sides, however they are most helpful in China vs GLA and GLA vs GLA in my opinion - as always, opinions may differ.
It can be done by pressing "ALT" and left clicking on the ground, the more waypoints you have, the longer the unit will move around. It will follow the waypoints in the order you clicked on the ground, it's not possible to remove waypoints, you have to tell your unit to stop by pressing "S".
China player often lose airfields to GLA players and sometimes have their MiGs up in the air, attacking something or guarding a special area, but after the migs fired at a unit or a building, they will try to return to the airfield and lose health. You will see it very often in Quasis' replays, he uses waypoints so that his MiGs fly all over the maps and do not lose health until he has rebuild his Airfield. Losing four MiGs because you are too lazy to use waypoints can be devasting!
In GLA vs GLA games it is common to go for a technical as the first unit, after a few GLA vs GLA games you will be able to predict the supply stash placement and Arms Dealer easily. So why not set waypoints so that your technical goes inviseble to your enemy's supply/Arms Dealer? It can turn the game easily, so that you can win the game after 5 - 10 minutes easily. A crippled economy early on will frustrate most players and make them surrender immidiately.
You can use waypoints in lots of other matchups as well, of course, for instance in USA vs China if you go for a fast Humvee and set the waypoint next to China's secondary supply to harass his economy early on. I think that's what Spalding does, but I didn't have a closer look at it. Try it out and post your results or ideas here!
