#93 - 7/12/08 - Fallen Empire Archways

By -Wraith^ - 7th December 2008 - 16:18 PM

Welcome to the 93rd Tip of the Week written by the new Strategy Specialist (I don't know why either) Rising`. This week's tip is regarding the flanking archways on the popular 2v2 map 'Fallen Empire'.

Overview

Newer players may have yet to discover that the far left-hand archway allows all units to pass through it whereas the archway on the far right of the map doesn't let anything pass under, well this is the common misperception anyway. I can only assume this was a bug when the map was created.

The tip

The right-hand archway however doesn't stop all units from passing through. GLA bikes will actually pass underneath. This has large implications as the bike can be rode by any infanty; worker, hijacker, saboteur etc. To send a bike through simply send it close up to the archway just before te cursor turns into a red no entry symbol. Then simple click the other side of the bridge and the bike will travel underneath.

You can exploit the fact that the majority of people don't know this to your advantage. During the mid-game when players may start to tunnel/build defences at the entrance to their base they will often ignore the right hand archway and what's more it will be out of their viewing range. This results in you not just being able to sneak stealthed units through but allows you to sneak a worker through to subsequently build a tunnel behind enemy lines!
