Tip of the Week #117 - Advanced Demo Trapping

By Rising` - 15th September 2009 - 19:58 PM

A common method used to stop workers building offensive tunnels is to build a demo trap next to your enemy's worker. The demo trap then explodes killing your opponents worker and possibly the tunnel scaffold if it is less than ~60% complete.

The instinctive thing to do is to build your demo trap right next to your opponents worker. However by doing this since demo traps are initially set on proximity fuse detonation, as soon as the trap is complete it will automatically explode sending your own worker skywards as well.

A better way of stopping the tunnel from being completed is to build the demo trap jsut far enough away from your opponents worker so that it doesn't automatically explode. You can use the tunnel scaffold as a guide to help you judge this distance; about two thirds the length of the tunnel side is ideal.

Then retreat your worker to a safe distance and manually detonate the trap. The damage dealt by the trap is still easily enough to kill their worker but this time your worker is left alive and healthy.
