Final of the World Series 2023 is Friday 20th of October at 15GMT.
Six weeks ago, the World Series 2023 kicked off with 64 players. Now there are only two players left: Vivid and Excal. These two will fight it out in a best of 15 where the winner will take the first prize of $3,500. The runner-up won't end up empty handed, he shall receive $1,800. With a total prize pool of above $8,000 this year's World Series has become the biggest Zero Hour tournament in history. Let's have a quick look at the players.
Vivid The man in green from Malaysia. Vivid kicked the World Series of with a 5-0 victory against BlackOpsWeteran in Round 1. In Round 2 he lost a single game against Vanko552 (6-1), just to have another perfect score in Round 3 against bigGanja (6-0). In the quarterfinals he faced Clan Wars winner Lift-Truck, and this ended in another convincing victory for ZH master Vivid: 7-1. The semifinals against Fargo was an absolute thriller, after 12 games it was Vivid who took the victory in a close battle: 7-5 and secured himself a spot in the final.
Vivid is one of the latest experts, he started to join the World Series for the first time in 2020. That year he got to the semifinals, and was one 1 game away from reaching the finals (6-7 vs Boycah). He lost the set for 3rd place against dk.crazy as well (5-7). A year later, Vivid got defeated in the quarterfinals by Shaye (5-7) and last year he took 3rd place against Fargo (8-4), after losing the semifinals against Excal (4-7).
Excal The purple man from England. Just as Vivid, Excal had a flawless Round 1 with a 5-0 against Almo0od. In Round 2 he had a hard opponent in the person of Dominator. A convincing 6-1 victory resulted in a clash with the player that beat him in the WS final of 2020: Boycah. It wasn't as close as it was in 2020, and with yet another 6-1 victory, Excal got into the quarterfinals. The opponent, StaZzz, was the same as previous year, but this time it wasn't as close: 7-1. After this, there was one more step to take: Marakar. After an even battle, the score was 3-3. Then Excal showed his power, and took the set without dropping another game: 7-3.
Excal is the reign champion, and he won the title also in 2021. He can go for the hattrick, something that hasn't been done before. Excal was also the winner of the very first World Series, many years ago in 2010. With a second place in 2020, Excal is one of the best performing players of all time. If he wins against Vivid, he will be the player with the most WS titles. Currently, he shares that record with Size (both have 3 titles).
