PinkBabyBoy (Tox) & cuteBUTmad (Tank) vs MS99 (Nuke) & MOAB28 (GLA) on Tournament Island, the best map in ZH 2003 - 2015 RIP sad.gif cry.gif 2008 style review INCOMING!

Course of the game
Spoiler
Another one of those TI 2 vs 2 games between friends and colleagues at war with one another on an immense scale on the 1.04 patch here in Zero Hour.
Starts off with lots of your usual early game action, goes into a mid-game full of wasted units and shameful decisions, then ends with a somber late-game rush.
MOAB28 walks a worker right on down into cuteyBIGmad!'s base, thinking he is so smart, but he forgot, BiGmad! is a smart guy as well. wink.gif He drives his truck straight up there from his oils supply, giving the poor 11 year old driver order only to run down any foreigners he comes across on his way to the sea(lolz, poor boy). He finds the worker, and runs him down with reckless abandon. So shocks was the worker, he stands totally erect after being hit head on. So sad are these ZH battles. The truck boy was given bathroom privileges for this success; Alas, he never gets to use them, as he is filled with a patriotic zeal after his first mission, and continues forward into MOAB28's base, running down another poor helpless worker, but this time he has gone too far, and he is chased down by two RPG wielding bro's, and caught just as he runs out of fuel. At this same time MS99 was going for a big fast Prop Center 1 minute into the game, relying on his opponents not rushing his vulnerable base supplies for success; But he doesn't even have a 2nd truck collecting at his oils supply. BoyBabyPink decides to see what MS98 is doing up there, and he succeeds in doing this(I guess), but he does no damage and loses two technicals and two RPG's for nothing in the process. He will face charges for a failed scouting mission afterward. Team 1 bunkers up their bases a bit and get the early rushing advantage, pushing into Team 2's bases at the same time, but they don't succeed in doing any notable damage. madcuteBUTT gets some tanks into the bases, and uses a big dragon to solve a local slavery problem in an old supplies warehouse...he burned up all the slaves by mistake, so he'll definitely receive a nasty slap on the wrist for that mistake. But really, could anything else be expected to happen? He was so trigger happy with that flame wall that he started spamming it against a scorp. In response to this, MS97 goes for a push down into PinkBoy's base with a small Overlord army, but he is ill-prepared, and gets cleaned up immediately by CUTIESmad Helix
→Vaporized really. Sadly, he goes a bit too hard with his Lix, and loses it to a Quad after going across the divide. He should have been sending his whole army in at this time, as this could have won him the game very quickly, as MOAB27 wouldn't have a thing to stop his tanks, and his ally wasn't in a good position to deal with helping, as he was already dealing with Pinky's assault. The tables turn quickly, and an Overlord assault goes South on the left, and a Quad+scorp army pushes likewise on the right island. The Overlord army is only overcome thanks to a small Helix squadron, however, the offensive on the right looks to be successful, and begins desolating, and another army of Overlords follows up attacking Pinky's base. However, CUTEbutMAD had an ace up his sleeve to turn things around; He drops a Dragon up behind MS96's oils, and flames them away, then goes ham on his base, with the dragon and Helix Napalm Bombs. He ends up hunting his last Dozer and burning up his CC, essentially defeating one opponent, and back in his own base, MOAB27 makes many mistakes in his judgment, resulting in the loss of his army, instead of destroying Mad's base. But things weren't finished yet, as a big push went down to the bottom-left island. Thankfully, our BabyBoy gets promoted, using that OP Tox Ambush, and finally realizes Jarmen Kell is a good counter to Overlords...a bit late, but oh well. There is one final push made at the end, it's success or failure decides the outcome.

Things to work on for the players:
Spoiler

PinkBabyBoy: Please realize the full power of Dr. Thrax vs Nuke, spam tunnels early on, using the RPG's and Scorpions behind as a means to force your way into Nukes base, using an occasional Technical to harass the supplies, and work on getting your Palace up back home; As soon as it's up, queue a Bus and Jarmen Kell, this will allow you to maintain your push(if it was successful), and then you can take him and his Overlords head-on. Your micro could use a little work, but your macro could you more. You just weren't moving quickly enough around the map, looking for every little thing you could have done.

cuteBUTmad: You did good in the early game, and show some game knowledge that the other players didn't, but you still weren't quick enough around the map, and left a lot of things go that could have changed this game a lot in your favor. Work on forethought, and try to increase your strategic depth, as it seems you just want to win with a few units, and not keep up with the rest of the stuff you've got back home. Macro could really use some work in that regard. I'm sure you wouldn't have too much trouble. P.S. I like that dragon tank on fame-wall guard mode. tongue.gif

MS99: Really work on your unit combination and army micro; You lost so many times because of your poor choices this way. Do not ever attack a base with Overlords that aren't assisted by ECM tanks, and if you do have them, please realize that they don't work like avengers vs a Bunker-Lix, you've still got to have some Gats mixed in that army to fend off those flying fortresses. You shouldn't have done any attacking without sufficient anti-air once you saw the first Helix, because that can only mean 1 thing, and that you should expect to see many more.

MOAB28: Your micro and decision making in this game was really poor. First of all, you floated way too much all the time; Spend that money on a Palace and Markets to go along with your attacks. You were always capable of doing more damage with your armies, but threw it away 9 out of 10 times. Especially when you first got into the bottom-right base. You should have been building Tunnels in his base to allow for quick and easy follow up attacks coupled with security. You also controlled your units poorly, and made the awful decision to target base defenses, which should never be done without necessity. When you saw mines were around a building, you would still drive your units over them, and when you saw there was a way to destroy/take his oils, then destroy his buildings around his Bunker, you chose to drive into the bunker's line of fire anyway. palm.gif Just so many units wasted in this game over all.

Notorious Rating
Spoiler
1.9/10 for the game, would have been higher, but the Elite Helix was shot down. Better luck next time.

Thank you for the in depth review its really interesting to hear someone elses opinion. I told pink before this is here so he should see your comments regarding him as well.

- That dragon which went to attack that scorpion, have no clue why that happened that was so strange. I need to watch it back again to refresh my memory, but as i recall he stopped firewalling or something then drove over and attacked a scorp instead... I never gave him any command to do that
edit/ ok watched it back now. I guess I had retaliation on and the scorpion attacking the dragon made retaliation over-ride the flame wall command. Thats pretty lame and surprising, that supply was dead otherwise.
Retaliation is a right pain in the ass soemtimes. Im always flicking back and fourth in game depending on what im trying to do or avoid doing. I would say generally it has more negative effects then positives. For instance if im GLA and i terror tech enemy base I dont want retaliation on incase terrors start running off, but then I also like to try terror techs on vee groups and for that I need retaliation on or they just stand there and die unelss I fire the floor(which I dont like). I know Jundiy said he does this as well (flicking back and fourth), and I see why. Retaliation is even more retarded on tiny no money maps when your base is apparently within range of a USA firebase or strat centre sleep.gif

- Losing that lix sucked, I got too greedy, but it was so close to escaping. That quad just came out the arms at the oppurtune moment to catch it. One more second and that lix was to safety and repair sad.gif

- "it seems you just want to win with a few units, and not keep up with the rest of the stuff you've got back home"
You hit the nail on the head there, thats exactly my mentality for some reason, I think I need to evolve out of that to improve.

When im microing a unit I find it very hard to find time to keep my macro going/increasing. I can keep up unit production because my buildings are numbered. But to be building more structures requires I look back to base, and whenever I seem to do that I will instantly lose the unit I was controlling.
Its really hard to find that balance, but watching streams of good players is good to see how they handle the macro when performing micro intensive tasks.

When you believe it's time to check on your base to build something, just tell your army to go back a small distance, then fast scroll/double-tap a numbered building, quick grab a worker, then use a hotkey to select the building, placing it down just where you had your pointer(having not moved it down to select the building you wanted). After all this, which should take about 2 seconds, you go back to your army the same way you went to your base.

It's a lot more complicated than that, but you get the idea.

Just don't ever leave your army in a bad position when you go to your base, and you should be fine.

Not sure never had that issue before. There’s a lot of water on the map so maybe that has something to do with it. Is there a water setting in the graphics options, maybe try lowering it or disabling it.
