Command and Conquer 4 at last! The epic trilogy about to come to an epic finish with the final game in the long running series and is set to hopefully release in 2010. Battlecast Primetime's Raj Joshi recently released the games announcement including a few GDI unit sneak peak and some important dates for more CnC4 exclusive information. The next episode of Battlecast Primetime is on July 24th which should host a range of new CnC4 content for us to see including with an interview with Sam Bass, lead writer for the Command and Conquer story.
However until then we decided to get a run down on what we have available at the moment which is the announcement video and the actual
Command and Conquer 4 website, so lets take a look at some of the content:
The Command and Conquer website background
The new Command and Conquer website has a very intriguing background which hosts a collection of units that we presume will make an appearance in CnC 4. So for out first analysis we will take a look at these units and compare them to already existing Tiberium RTS games.
- A new fixed wing aircraft unit, very similar to the Firehawk. Bearing GDI markings it may well replace the Firehawk or possibly outclass it. It fires two energy weapons for its armaments and judging from its lack of bombs we can presume it may be an air superiority fighter.
- The mysterious GDI gunship present in the concept art. Housing 4 quad turrets we can presume it is a VTOL unit that is permanently airborne (much like the GDI Hammerhead). It may be able to transport units but this is merely speculation.
- The Mammoth Mk2 (possibly Mk4 due to its weapon enhancement).
- The Zone Trooper from Tiberium Wars/Kane's Wrath which looks almost unchanged aesthetically besides his weapon. For now we can presume its primary role is still anti-armor.
- Another new aircraft bearing Nod markings this time. A large aircraft such as this is most likely a heavy bomber that could parachute units as well. Similar aircraft have been seen in the Kane's Wrath single player campaign.
- This unit is a large mystery. It resembles the cyborg units from Kane's Wrath but also has a mask and features that of the Black Hand. Its weapon is obvious: a large anti-tank missile/laser bazooka bent on thrashing all of GDI's armored units.
- Kane lives!
The GDI carrier
GDI seems to be getting more air units in Command and Conquer 4, as seen here are three brand new aircraft we have never seen before. So ultimately what these sky behemoths do or how they are implemented in the game is anyone’s guess; the only real connection we have is with the old Kodiak space craft from Firestorm. But I am sure we are all familiar with its fate.
- This large V shaped aircraft is a tremendously large unit (compared to the gunship at 2) so we can presume it is a heavy support unit that could be used for carpet bombing or unit deployment.
- This is the same gunship from all other screenshots and is seemingly docking with the GDI carrier. The gunship acts as a good scale to compare with the other units as it is roughly the size of the Mammoth Tank.
- The obvious eye catcher in the photo, the GDI drop ship-like carrier is a tremendous behemoth and may well be the new Philadelphia in terms of main HQ. Of course what this ship could do or what its purpose is still anyone guess.
- Three artillery cannons sit on four of these side pods, which we may presume can be used to call down a bombing run or send GDI infantry directly to the battlefield via drop pods.
