CnC3 Shortcut Keys - Master Guide

I have seen in many articles being said that it is very important to use shortcut keys and I do agree and I see the great benefits that this will bring to the player.

But I was surprised not to find any kind of article detailing how to do this and helping the player make this important and hard improvement.

It takes a lot of time and a lot of training to master the shortcut keys and it is important to know what you are going into as you plan on starting learning.

Firstly, it is very important to find the perfect combination of shortcut keys that best suits you, and secondly, it is important to have an idea of what you will be encountering as you learn: how much time and how much training you may need, what problems you may encounter, how gameplay will change.

I would like for this topic to be a master guide of everything regarding the shortcut keys:

- what they are
- how to find the best combination for you
- advantages/disadvantages of using them
- time/training needed
- before/after impressions
- gameplay impressions
- keyboard type recommendations
- links to articles about hotkeys
- tips

I invite everyone who uses shortcut keys, and who would like to, to publish his list of hotkeys used (and keyboard type) and to let us know his impressions and his experiences.

And to everyone else, if you have impressions or recommendations about this topic, please share them with us.

I am sorry, but have you read what I wrote in my post ? Please read again to have a better idea of what this topic is about.

I am interested in the list of hotkeys, impressions, tips of people, of pro players, not in the default hotkeys which really aren't that functional.

The first link that you have provided is not functional and the second points to a topic with only the default shortcut keys.

Well, it's good that we started with the list of the default hotkeys, but it would be good to know the custom hotkeys of the pro players.

First, why do you think pr0 players would give you their hotkeys?
Secondly, no one pro still plays this game on a regular basis - meaning you're unlikely to get anything out of this topic.

Hotkeys are choose by the user. No all people have the same hotkey configuration.

And who said that all of the people have the same configuration ?

Firstly, this topic is not intended only for pro players, as you have said, but for all of the people using hotkeys.

It's not only about giving the list of hotkeys, but to discuss about hotkeys, how could a player learn them.

This could easily be deduced from my initial post, if read entirely.

Therefore, your conclusion "meaning you're unlikely to get anything out of this topic" is false because the premises of it is false.

Secondly, I don't want the players to give ME the list of hotkeys, but to share them with this community as they share strategies and replays so that the people in the community can learn from them.

What do you think that is the purpose of this forum ?

The numbers keypad can be doctored for use in the build section.

eg. 7 = power plant, 8 = Refinery, 9 = RAX, 4 = WF, 5 = command post, 6 = airfield, etc......

Though this was popular for a time I dont believe this is they way forward currently.

Also as I play(ed) as GDI I remapped the exit APC functionfrom control + P so that it was just one keystroke. Mine was changed to just P.

If I had played as Nod I would have changed the default one click wonder hotkeys to just one keystroke.

Though because I attempted to learn a little at a time, I never bothered to change them from the default ones as otherwise I would struggle to remember where I had placed the new hotkeys.

Some people find it is better to change hotkeys so that they are all accessable with one hand (usually the left hand if you are right handed).

some people use software add ons so that things like the spacekey can be changed. for example instewad of using the default reverse move hotkey D, change this to the space key.

By far the most common ones I used were:

Macro Hotkeys: W and Q hotkeys, the tab function, the E, R, T, Y, U (I think from memory wink.gif ) hotkeys, the K, L and ; hotkeys (for map control), and was in the process of learning more such as the individual build hotkeys).

Micro Hotkeys: the APC exit hotkey, reverse move, control + A, wayward planning functions (used with expansions and setting scouting routes), control + X, the mouse button simaltanously held for formation move hotkey, as well as others whih I can not remember right now. tongue.gif

What can also be done is to learn them all and then change them to what best fits you and your style of play. At the end of the day its about what floats your boat, and no two boats share the same wave. good luck sailor. biggrin.gif

well when i first started playin red alert 3 online. i couldnt stand using the f keys to build. i find using the default ones make you jump around all over the keyboard to much. The way i have my hotkeys set up is that i have them all very clsoe toghter on the left side .

i use shift+QWERT for the building tabs,
then qwe asd zxc for the slots.
r is to select all units
f is reverse move
v is for stop
t is to scatter units
1234 i use to group units.
i use the f keys for the support powers
` is to sell
Tab is to repair
my G9 key is to power down
space bar to see the most recent thing that happened or w/e
then the rest is pretty much default.
like ctrl+asdf
alt+asdf

these are pretty much the only hotkeys i use. I have showed these to gr8whiteninja and he uses them and i guess he loves them.Hope this was helpfull.

Thank you, Disco2Disco and Greasy !

Can you tell us the names of the keyboards that you use as well as how much time it took to learn the hotkeys, to feel comfortable with them ?
