Louis Castle, co-founder of Westwood Studios and pioneer of the Real-Time Strategy (RTS) genre, made news a couple of years back with War Commander: Rogue Assault an RTS game for mobile. Now, Gamasutra reports that Amazon Games Studios Seattle has added Castle to their team, with the idea of working on the studio's MOBA-inspired multiplayer shooter title Crucible.

As mentioned by Polygon:

Crucible is a MOBA-inspired shooter for 12 players, in which combatants can switch sides and betray their teammates. It also features a 13th player who can trigger in-game events while livestreaming to Twitch. The game was unveiled at TwitchCon in September last year.

In recent years, Amazon has been expansive in the game industry, increasing its studio network and buying streaming service Twitch, as well as selling games via its retail hub. Last month, the company opened a new studio headed up by former Sony Online Entertainment chief John Smedley.

This is indeed an interesting development as in addition to how this further indicates that Amazon is truly serious about delving in the games industry, this also marks one of the first forays of Louis Castle outside of his traditional RTS sphere which he helped pioneer so many years ago.

Will this lead to a futher raise of stature for Amazon in the gaming scene? Only time will tell.
