Dear community!

I just joined today because I am playing the most awesome game again since a few years: bfme biggrin.gif
My question is, and i hope you can all help me. Since my PC knowledge is minimal atm...

What are the recommended specs for the PC when you want to play bfme2 and RoTWK?
I want to make use of the Edain mod as well. Plus gameranger and installing the latest patchhes ofcourse.

Do the games also run on Windows 10? (I tried it before but i get a crash if i want to start the game... tried the compatibility already tho.) Or is it recommended to play it on Win 7?

A lot of questions but i want to make the most of this game and get everything out of it!:)

I would be very grateful if someone would and could help me!

Sincerely,
Sam

Greetings and welcome. For future reference it's better to post these kinds of questions in the tech support section: https://www.gamereplays.org/community/index...p?showforum=847.

Yes they do. You need to create your own Options.ini file to prevent the game from crashing upon startup on win10. Also (I assume you don't use the disks) I'd recommend to mount the game with wincdemu (http://wincdemu.sysprogs.org/) for win10. See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-RSyxtJ_2CU for an install tutorial for BFME2 and ROTWK and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IqhJ_ECqPEQ for Edain.

To install the latest patches for rotwk and bfme2 check out https://www.gamereplays.org/riseofthewitchk...2-download-page and https://www.gamereplays.org/battleformiddle...fme2-patch-1.09
Remember though that you have to disable 2.02 and 1.09 to be able to play edain.

Cheers

Thanks for the reply!

I actually have the physical disks so downloading is not necessary i guess biggrin.gif
I saw the options text file indeed! But do ihave to open the program files and create a text document there? cuz last time all i could add was a new map folder.

Do the patches still work with the physical disks? And is it then HD, because i saw a downloaded version of it somewhere in HD. (I'm asking to be better safe than sorry).

Thanks in advance once again!

Greetz

If you have the disks then you dont need to mount/download cd-images. Install the good old-fashioned way, patch the games and create your Options.ini and it should work. To create Options.ini: go to start ---> click run --> type %appdata% ---> hit ok --> go to my battle for middle earth ii files. Now open notepad and copy paste the following settings

AllHealthBars = yes
AmbientVolume = 81.000000
AnimationLOD = High
AudioLOD = Low
Brightness = 50
DecalLOD = High
EffectsLOD = Medium
FlashTutorial = 0
GameSpyIPAddress =
HasSeenLogoMovies = yes
IdealStaticGameLOD = Low
ModelLOD = Medium
MovieVolume = 70.000000
MusicVolume = 78.000000
Resolution = 1024 768
SFXVolume = 80.000000
ScrollFactor = 64
SendDelay = no
ShaderLOD = Low
ShadowLOD = Low
StaticGameLOD = Custom
TerrainLOD = Medium
TextureQualityLOD = High
TimesInGame = 59
UseEAX3 = no
VoiceVolume = 69.000000
WaterLOD = Medium

Save the file on the location you browsed to and name it Options.ini. Also create a new folder called Maps in that same location.

You can find the HD edition for bfme2 here http://www.moddb.com/mods/battle-for-middl...th-2-hd-edition. The HD edition for rotwk is still in beta stages I believe.

Great that bfme2 is working! You need to be more specific about your problems with rotwk though. Can't really work with doesn't seem to work or how do i make rotwk run without you telling what is the problem/error tongue.gif.

Oh yeah sorry... Its the excitement tongue.gif
Uhm i basically get the same error as bfme2 that i have to ''place the right cd''. Or that it just freezes at the start up and it says "rotwk has stopped working''.

I read something that it might have something to do about the right ''image'' for the game? Or should it just work with the same text file like last time with the options.ini?

You've been a great help so far thank you kindly!

You get both of those errors for rotwk? What do you mean the same error as you used to have with bfme2? Options.ini doesn't solve the no-cd error. It solves the bfme2/rotwk has stopped working error. Let's focus on the "place the right cd" error first. A no-cd error when using the physical copies might indicate that your disk is faulty. If you downloaded the new game.dat from the 2.02 download page and replaced your rotwk game.dat with it then you don't need a disk to play at all so you shouldn't run into that problem. Are you still on 2.01 or did you update to 2.02 already?

I am still on 2.01! Its strange tho because i got that same error with bfme2 (the place the right cd error). So for that i have to update to patch 2.02 and replace the original game.dat file with the one that is on this site?

The ''stopped working'' error should be fixed as I place the options.ini in My battle for middle earth rise of the witch king files?

Ok but you managed to solve the cd error for bfme2 right since it's working now? How?

Yes update to 2.02 and be sure to make a back-up of your game.dat before you replace it with the game.dat on this site. The game.dat of this site should be replaced in C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Lord of the Rings, The Rise of the Witch-king.

In most cases the "stopped working" error should be fixed if you make the options.ini yes. Be sure to switch bfme2 version to 1.06 from 1.09 using the patch switcher that came with 1.09 install when you want to play rotwk. If you're still on 1.09 you will also get "stopped working" for rotwk.

Okay then I will try the options.ini thingy for rotwk as well. It is probably the same as bfme 2 right?

And as to why bfme 2 is working, I patched it to 1.09, tried to run with win 8 compatibility mode, then i got ''my battle for middle earth 2 files'' and there i placed the options.ini text file. It went smoothly after that, did a skirmish with dwarves to test it and looks fine smile.gif some maps have some strange shadow textures but for me its not that much of a problem.

I will try your suggestions and I keep you posted this week if rotwk works!

Okay, I went through all the steps: I patched the game to 2.02, i replaced the game.dat and I copied the same options.ini to the rotwk directory location.

I tried launching the 2.02 launcher (It has a different icon than the original game). Only this time my game wont start up at all. It shows the loading screen at the start up but it after that it doesnt start and i get the (place the right cd) error.

Am i doing something wrong or am i forgetting something?..

Try running from the game shortcut instead of the launcher. Are you running it in compatibility mode? If so try different versions or run it regularly by disabling compatibility mode. Also I think this topic needs to be moved to rotwk tech support from now on.
