The Battle for Middle-Earth meets a brand new, powerful game engine - Unreal Engine 4!



Major changes:


Up-to-date 3D graphics, FX effects: Unreal Engine 4 has received recognition for it's leading realtime visual rendering capabilities and has been widely used in creating movies and architectural design.

No more lags: Lags were always an issue when it comes to multiplayer, it was the old engine and off host problem which were responsible for players suffering. Multiplayer optimization is one of our primary goals and it is possible due to having a new game engine and, in particular, an open source code and an opportunity to make a convenient auto rating system.

Dynamic interaction: Dynamic and destructible landscape and surroundings, sophisticated physics. Watching is better than reading and that's why we prepared special footage, showing clothing simulation (e.g. capes and banners realistically reacting to wind), dynamic destruction of buildings and castle walls (The deeping wall of Helm's Deep explodes as it does in the film "The Two Towers"), collision of various objects (units collide and interact with each other and their surroundings)

High fps: The Battle for Middle-Earth and it's successors had only 30 fps which is too low for modern games! We assure you, you will feel the difference when you will watch the gameplay footage.

4K support: Even The Battle for Middle-Earth II could not even support a resolution of 1K, that is also why it's official gameplay videos had a resolution no higher than 720 P. The first teaser of "The Battle for Middle-Earth: Reforged" is shot in Ultra HD resolution, so we kindly suggest you to switch on the higher parameters to 4K (or 2K in case if your device capacity is not enough). Do not watch it on phones unless you are up to skip the best of we can offer.

We are determined to continue developing "The Battle for Middle-Earth: Reforged" as well as we are confident to tell that many new changes are to be introduced in the future if the project goes on.

BFME: Reforged is a non-commercial project currently under development.
A trailer is going to be released before the end of June 2018!

Top 1 priority atm is to preserve original gameplay and introduce improved mechanics deprived of host delay. I believe it is first and only attempt to bring bfme to the same level as commercial RTS. If Reforge will be a success (God i hope it will) it will surely adapt BTP balance to bring new cw experience.

We are facing too much scepticism atm, but it is ok considering there was no project like this before. We do not know how EA/Warners will react to this, and we hope no legal issues will arise.

Stay tuned. We would appreciate any advices you can give.

Interesting, though, I do wonder how much different it will be in terms of game mechanics than BFME2.

Also, 50% of the player base here have stoneage computers that wont be able to run it, time to upgrade peasants.

This sounds real good tho, but i dont get my hopes up too high. Remember bfme3? But then it was april... biggrin.gif

Offhost delay, pathfinding are high on the priority list id say. Also it would be nice if the game remains moddable... I always liked how many unique things you can make here

Agreed, game mechanics is a crucial thing and a difficult one as well as creating the game itself on this engine, that's why a lot of bugs are expected to emerge after the release but also we are going to make beta tests, questionnaries for players. Yeah, our primary goal is to make a multiplayer with auto rating system.

Keep up the good work. Also, if theres anything me or someone else can help you with, don't worry to ask. I would be particulary interested in how the worldbuilding tools work in this engine.

Dear friends! Thank you for your support and jaw-dropping feedback! smile.gif We are so happy reviving BFME but actually are a bit exhausted because we've worked so hard for a year on that (not even telling anyone about it before the right time came), that's why your support is something we direly need. Unfortunately, some modders from other projects are not happy to see us and we receive threats from them, but with your support we can do this. The teaser is expected to be released before the end of June!
