Awww yeah. I, for one, feel really excited. They bring a lot of changes what makes the game playing feel a lot better. Right now it gets a bit boring fast. Few more expansions and I won't be playing anything else !
Me and Andre are playing this right now, can't wait for the expansion. We have yet to make it past early game though >.>.
I totally understand. The problem isn't early game, but it is still midgame, when nothing is happening and you are just stuck, farming technologies. Atm expansion seems to deal with it a bit, adding more options.

Agreed, I really love the game but the issue I have with it is is that if you get stuck in an area you can't expand in or even an area where you are literally just having to spam planets it can get very boring very quickly. There isn't enough interesting tech going on for it to actually be fun at that point. I try and induce the insanely hard boss battles. Largely because there isn't anything better to do and it also has its uses in taking out sections of the galaxy.
They have improved it but it stills needs a lot more content. I generally tend to go exploring things like the Sphere and the Fortress and the Dreadnaught if I hit that point in the game. Largely because I'm leagues ahead of any other race and have nearly ten fold the planets they might have.

Try hard difficulty and the difference is day and night. I played normal right now, enjoyed it a lot but I soon felt like good and it took away a lot from enjoyment at the later stages.
Thankfully so far all those changes utopia have hinted are amazing and it will improve gameplay A TON! I have been keeping eyes on that.
We've been learning the game using > -1000 Stars -4 Spiral -3 Fallen -3 Advanced -Random Starts -Hard Difficulty -Normal Aggression -No Advanced Neighbors (on our most recent attempt)
1st attempt we died because we didn't have any armies for a long time, 2nd attempt we were boxed in by fallen empires on each side and an advanced faction basically locking us into our tiny corner of the map, 3rd attempt we are doing good so far, expanded alot in the beginning and am slowly overpowering my neighbor. Will probably be the first time we get into the mid-game I hope.
Don't really know what effect the Utopia changes will have but they all look cool.

But is it fun or does it get frustrating? I personally feel like there is no "kinda hard, but not way too hard" difficulty. I love when it is hard and I overpower the enemy, but at the same time, if I get rekt over and over again, it starts feeling a bit frustrating.
When I played on normal, it felt so easy that it got a bit boring in an other way.
I personally had easy time as playing in normal. I had 250 k fleet. When the unbitten came, I went straight away and saved galaxy, as their 50k stack was nothing. I regretted a bit later, as galaxy should have seen the power of unbitten. Maybe they would had been appreciated my actions more.
Now, I am waiting about war in heaven event, but one fallen empire (warmorger one) awoken before and has grown ab it too big. 700k stack, hard to fight, even tho we still won by using advanced tactics of strakining and taking planets when their doomstack where other side of their imperium.
Either way, next time I am gonna make it hyperspace only. Adds more tactical possibilities.

I feel like they might have weakened the unbidden a little bit too much. That said in my game they basically ignored them and the unbidden didn't really get very far which was dissappointing. I want the crisis to actually be crisis that put my game and my own safety in jeopardy. And the ability to actually unite the galaxy and for people to put aside differences. They didn't really do that in my game, just hated me permanently.
Still feel even with this patch the game is not interesting enough mid game.
