That would be too much of a privilege. Moving them to pot 2 ensures no Expert v Expert game in the first round

Nah - that way you may see one or two faces in the latter stages that might not otherwise have gotten there smile.gif

In any case, from an expert PoV: "you gotta beat the best at some stage"

You got a point with 'you gotta beat the best at some stage'.

This is something they say about footbal tournies: 'to become world champion, you have to be able to beat all.'

However, history shows that the world champion have a much bigger chance to win the world cup, if they get a bit lucky with the draw. It makes sense, the chance of winning against a club like Bayern is less than against a weak club like Arsenal (sorry, had to).

The WS with 64 participants has 6 rounds I believe. Let's say Fargo has to play: Boycah, Size, Excal, Logica, Vivid and Dominator. Fargo has around a chance of 50/50 vs everyone (the exact % isn't that important). So the chance of Fargo winning the WS after facing these 6 players is: 1/2^6 = 1/64, around 1.5%.

However, if he doesn't have to play 6 top players, but instead only 3 (and some noobs like Fire^Arm where he has a chance of 99% against), the chance of him winning is suddenly: 0.99 * 0.99 * 0.99 * 0.5 * 0.5 * 0.5 = 12% (1/8 if you don't take the 99% in mind).

So a bit of luck does increase the chances drastically. However, having experts only facing each other from the quarterfinals is kinda boring imo, you might aswell start in the quarterfinals. It might be a bit more fun to see some surprises like last year, where some unexpected results did happen.

I think the current system with the pots is good, no experts vs each other in the first round and if you put a bit of effort into the qualification, you good get a much better path to the final.
