This is the discussion thread for Thorin's http://www.gamereplays.org/riseofthewitchking/portals.php?show=page&name=stances_formations_guide!
Nice
I was making one too
But know mine was waste of time ...
great guide, i never knew that u lost vision when in defensive
great guide
thanks so much
Pr0 as always, Thorin
Swordsmen:
Defensive:
* +25% Armor
* -15% Damage
* -10% Vision
Aggressive:
* +25% Armor
* 15% Damage
there is a mistake
make "-" instead of "+" on aggresive stance
I knew ROTWK stances worked for archers/heroes, but I didn't know they used 1.05 numbers.
That's cool Great guide!
Thanks guys
Great guide!
wonderfull guide. Ma friends didnt believe me, that def stance slows cavarly
Awesome guide but i think there are some problems. Im not sure about this but dont archers get NO damage or armor bonus when in any stace i though they got just vision ar auto targeting i might be wrong though.
the other problem i think might be wrong was you said rhudar spearmen cant be in porcupine, but there is a picture of them on the pic isnt that the spearmen?
anyways AWESOME GUIDE!!!!!!!!! plz dont get mad at me if my comments are incorrect. I might of just been misinformed by another person.
Thorin^'s a beast.
I thought that stances didn't do anything in RotWK but auto-firing. But I only played the game like 4 times or so. Then my parents took it away because of being addicted
Good job, Thorin^, I'm proud of our SSM
BTW, Kasma, that spearmen on the pic are rohan spearmen
good guide .
-applause- Nice guide Thorin^
angmarion warrior u got tht game back yet?
if not find out where it is. thn sneak it out every time u wanna play it. once played, put it back
on anoter note, i thought tht stances didnt count aswell, i though agressive was auto attack and defence was not attacking.
but u changed all tht, now i know thy actually like 1.05. i still used stances but well i will probably use thm like i did in 1.05.
ps: if same swordsman (in this case gondor soldiers) fought each other, one in defence, 1 in attack, who would win?
also in one is in def or att, and other is in normal, who would win?
Thanks guys
Great guide Thorin^
what about the spearmen read mt othreer post to see it
most people forget the formations nice guide! (DFG)
GJ as usual
oh sorry i got confused with rhudar and rohan for some reason
Very useful guide...thanx a lot
Awesome~~~~
Moved to make it seen.
Great guide. Well done.
In the spanish version of the game (i don't know if the keys are the same in both versions) to put in aggresive have to push D and in defensive G. Before, i played without this, but now i have discovered my units are much better with it
.
Awesome guide
I learned a lot from this guide. NICE JOB
where did you get all the information for stats from?
Also, how do you attach ss's without it saying 'click to enlarge' at the top? becaus that can get annoying
anyway great guide
i got a some questions 'bout this guide:
do the stance for sorcerers work as same as archers(if you place them in a formation, they are showed as bows).
for hero hordes, u use the hero stance boni?
or does cav hero hordes, get the cav bonus?
and if that is, what boni would noldors(swordsmen, archer and pike in one) get?
could you make it a bit clearer for me? having some trouble understanding what you're getting at
....but wtf is boni?
Bonus.
1 bonus
2 boni
ah ok. lol
Latin style
back on topic plz:
Sorcerers work as archers yes, for hero hordes as infantry, cavalry, depending on what they are.
thanks thorin.
that was a nice guide.
how do you keep the units so orderly, like in a 5x5 formation and things like that?
I can't seem to find anything on google!
You can create a formation for a larger group of units by holding both mouse buttons clicked (when you have the units you want in the formation selected) and subsequently moving the cursor around. You'll see the formation appear on the ground and can tweak it by moving the cursor in any given direction - once you release the mouse buttons your units move to their assigned positions.
Apart from this very useful guide, are there any detailed sets of instructions and guides with formations?
Thanks for the info
In case you're referring to the double-button formations, no there aren't. The formations are really quite self-explanatory and simple to understand, seeing as they group your units in a certain way (archers behind, infantry in front, etc.) and your mouse drag determines the setup.
Great Guide
However, you forgot to mention Artillery Stances which actually exist. They give you awesome 0% bonus armor in hold ground stance and the same bonus in aggresive stance along with 0% bonus attack . Hold Ground stance gives 10% vision penalty, which plays crucial part in the game.
Greets
Cáno
The guide is still being updated at the moment, so it still has some mistakes .
Should Gondor soldiers and uruk-hai always be placed in shield formation unless travelling over the map?
No! Shield Wall Formation reduces your damage by 20%.
Use it as an extra Defensive Stance. Shield Wall gives you just as much bonus armor as Defensive Stance but the penalty is that it reduces your damage more than Defensive does. The armor increase is worth it, but if your soldiers aren't already in Defensive Stance then you're being counterproductive. Eg. I see people place their swords in Aggressive + Shield Wall when attacking buildings because they don't know what they're doing, Shield Wall is just canceling Aggressive Stance really.
If what you say is true, then the guide is wrong..
quote Thorin: "Shield Wall Formation can only be used by Soldiers of Gondor and Uruk-hai. It gives the unit +25% armor while reducing the unit's speed to 60%. Consequently the formation is only useful when engaged in battle. Seeing as the only disadvantage of the formation is speed, it should always be used when attacking as it basically gives additional armor for free. Be it when fighting other infantry, facing approaching cavalry or attacking structures - Shield Wall's armor benefit is extremely handy."
He says nothing about reducing damage!
The guide is wrong.
The shield wall damage reducing effect wasn't discovered back when he made the post and the guide was made. It was only until later that it was realized and made known to us, brought to our attention by the fact it was taking longer to take down resource buildings. I think somebody looked at the ini files and concluded that it took -20% damage.
So which stance is the best with shield wall formation? Neutral?
Defensive without buffs for uber strong meatshield, there really isnt other cases when shield wall should be used, exeption is ofc capturing outpost in stonewain but apart of that nothing.
Where do you get those numbers from? Anyway I was sure stance doesnt affect trumpling... Tho I guess I was wrong. Do forged blades affect trampling then?
Nope, they incerase the weapon attack of cavalry. And guys get those from ini.files
LOL in the "soldiers vs uruks" battles the first one was vs 1pike1sword uruk bats and the 2nd one against 2pike uruk bats.... kinda ruins the whole point of that example.
Useful bump? No. This guide is ancient and needs updating...
yo thorin, sound like u still got the hunger for GR
