GameReplays.org _ RotWK 2.02 Discussion _ dodgewars.net - team maps

Posted by: StrayHeart Feb 25 2018, 22:35 PM

Hi all.

Can I ask you to provide me list of all team maps you're playing? I can then include them in system, so you will be able to play your games on them and see those cool images on matches history smile.gif

Currently added 2v2 maps on the dev environment:

Plains of Rohan

Anfalas II is indeed another good option, as is Anorien (not to be confused as Anorien II).

Idk where this comes from. A 4vs4 can be as competitive as 1v1 or 2v2 at the cost of increased lag ( though with good host and good teamplay, you can kinda make up for it) and follows similar rules in map requirements to make for a good match, therefore please include no 'turtle' maps, with the exception of nandu ofc. Because it's a classic.

I tend to agree.

4vs4s are not that competitive, far from it...

They're not as competitive as 1v1s and 2v2s, but that doesn't write them off as non competitive.

Don't worry, boys. Dodgewars support all types of team games since yesterday.

It can certainly be more competetive than it currently often is. However, there are some factors that will always make 4v4 more problematic in terms of balance because factions can focus on their strengths and some team compositions simply have an easier time there.

A MotW player can not simply make a huge cav army in 1v1. Their weaker elite archers and slower basic troops make up for their strength in cav and heroes. Other factions like Isengard don't have such an obvious army composition that is very one-sided.

The most popular multiplayer games are played competitve in squads.
Sure bfme is different, but mostly because there are rarely enough good players active at once

The most popular ones, yes. How is that related to how competetive it is?

Posted by: TheRingisHot Mar 4 2018, 17:57 PM

Usually the most popular games are also the most competitive like dota lol overwatch cs pubg etc

Posted by: Mako Mar 4 2018, 18:50 PM

They aren't RTS

mindblowing

Anyways this goes offtopic. 4vs4 is a vital part of the game, despite the many people, who have claimed 4vs4 hurt the game in the past, but at the same time you could argue 4vs4 format has kept the game somewhat alive for some time now or at the very least contributed heavily towards that.

Maybe, yeah, but I don't think 4v4s are popular enough to the point where it becomes competitive simply by virtue of having many players.

I still think that due to the design of the game's factions, 4v4s are inherently problematic balance wise. If you like cooperative play, 2v2 is superior.

Would it be possible to include all 2.02 maps? Or is it a strenuous task?

It is possible. If someone helps me, it's no big trouble to include them all.

How can we help? Ideally, we want the support of all maps. DWs would receive more attention.

Nice.

Find map ID - to make this happen you have to run a game in multiplayer mode with a new map that you would like to include in the system. Then quit game, open Last Replay file and write down the 'MS' value. This value is used by my system to identify each map.

Maps images - make screenshot before starting game and use any gfx program (I use MS Paint biggrin.gif ) to cut map image.

Map code name - i.e. FordsOfIsen

Map display name - Fords of Isen (user friendly name)

All this data I use to import maps to the DB.

Posted by: StrayHeart Mar 14 2018, 11:37 AM

It would be the most comfortable if you prepare me a SQL insert statement. Examplary statement of one of the db migrations:

QUOTE

insert into [dbo].[Map] (CodeName, DisplayName, Image, ReplayMapId)
values
('Udun', 'Udun', null, 457864),
('Buckland', 'Buckland', null, 548492),
('AnorienII', 'Anorien II', null, 312481),
('OstInEdhil', 'Ost-In-Edhil', null, 411749),
('TowerHills', 'Tower Hills', null, 636282)
