I was under the impression that they go down easily enough once you give them some treatment with any kind of AT unit and I would guess that was kind of their whole shtick. I would think that they are meant to be an investment in protection from harassment comming from something like a lone squad of boyz?

LP and gens have normal armor so AT actually does less damage against it.

I kind of like that doctrinal abilities are significant. If you keep on top of him it'll be hard for him to put one up in a forward position.

The flamer doctrinal ability is way more annoying imo especially vs Orks.

Agreed and agreed. I didn't play a single game as SM without the flamer Doctrine.

I don't get how a rts game can launch without ladder.

Competition and tracking your progress is half the fun of a rts game.

There's no ladder? I never heard anything about that before. Maybe it's to take out ladder anxiety.

Well I don't know Relic's reason, but Overwatch didn't launch with a ranked mode either. Blizz came out with there ranked mode roughly 2 months after launch. I think blizz just wanted to super polish it and they kept changing it even after that. It could be that relic wants to let people figure the game out for a bit before throwing the ladder in.

The matchmaking system is based off skill rating like DoW2/CoH2.

CoH2 launched without an actual leaderboard though. They had a community solution for a long time and half-assed implementing an official one. Really the only thing people used it for was arguing on the forums anyway.

no, TrueSkill is/was a Microsoft thing, linked to Games For Windows Live.
They had to abandon it when they chose to go for a 100% steam game in Retribution, so they implemented a classical ELO system themselves.

Ladder Anxiety shouldn't be taken serious.

Just look how it ruined sc2 ladder system.

Wc3:tft ladder was the best.
One big normal ladder with points/wins/losses, but also the level system.

What makes trueskill better then ELO?
ELO is pretty fair if you'd ask me.

With TrueSkill, I think you can climb up the ladder way faster at the beginning if your level is high, compared to a classical ELO system, even with placement games as there is in DOW2 Retribution, COH2 or even SC2.

But TrueSkill have some flows too, if you have played a tons of game, it will be extremely long to change your TrueSkill if you suddenly become way better.

Going on 80-100 game win streaks without TS changing at all was a lot of fun, almost as much fun as having it decrease after winning a game.

TrueSkill went for fast matchmaking as opposed to accurate matchmaking. Not something you want in a competitive game. It was also region locked. It was also a pain in the ass to download its new updates. It also kept on matching you with people you blocked because they were verbally harassing you.

There's a very good reason TrueSkill is gone from the face of the planet: It sucked.

If it helps, Relic have confirmed a ladder to come sometime in the (near) future. Concede / Surrender is coming first though, as a priority.

Oh I did not hear about that yet. Do you have a source for the surrender/concede?

I could be confusing Leaderboards and a Ladder, to be fair.

The only game I've played at a high level recently is Overwatch, historically I haven't had the time (or resources) to commit. Looking forward to getting good at DoW III, though.

ARE ANY OTHER FEATURES IN THE WORKS THAT WE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT?

You bet! A surrender option will follow shortly after launch, and we’ll be implementing leaderboards in an update in a few weeks. We’ll also be releasing regular updates, addressing both bug fixes and balance issues that arise, once you all have a chance to play!

Notably they've already pushed a hotfix for graphical options not being set correctly (a major issue for quite a few folks).
