Today’s Tip of the Week will deal with Armored Transports. Armored Transports are one of the most versatile units in the game. They have decent armor to protect from enemy fire, and are also able to attack every unit on the battlefield. They can take out infantry quite easily, shoot down a helicopter (though they aren’t the best at it), destroy lightly armored vehicles with either their TOW missile (USA), AT-5 Spandrel (USSR), or they can switch to armor piercing rounds (NATO). Even with their versatility in attacking various units their main function is to move infantry to the front lines quickly and effectively. The armored transport is not suited to be a main attack force, as it's name states it is an armored TRANSPORT. The main function of it is to transport troops and keep them protected and provide them support. It is overall a well rounded unit, but it is best suited to support other units such as tanks or infantry and transport infantry.
Although not useful at every map, armored transports can be a good replacement for tanks, given that you are not the only armor player at your team.
Here is an Armored Transport that is providing some support to my tanks and I also have some air support. The helicopters in the back.
Offensive Ability: TOW missile (USA), AT-5 Spandrel (USSR), or Armor-Piercing Rounds (NATO) The TOW and AT-5 Spandrel are missiles, but the Armor-Piercing Rounds switch the main cannons ammunition. Works best against lightly armored vehicles. (HOTKEY: E)
Defensive Ability: Smoke Screen The smoke screen takes away your vision and the enemies’ vision in the smoke. It is very effective if used when a helicopter is attacking you or if you need to retreat. It also has an area effect which means only one unit has to fire one to cover up the area around it.
