How to install and play The Rise of the Witch-king

Install The Battle for Middle-earth II

  1. Download and install Daemon Tools Lite or any equivalent program which works best for you. Keep an eye out for potential toolbars and other unwanted programs when installing!. On Windows 10 you don't need it even if we suggest to have it.
  2. Download the clean ISO of The Battle for Middle-earth II - 5.54 GB (Mirror 1) (Mirror 2)
  3. Mount the downloaded .iso file with Daemon Tools or equivalent program.
If you already have the original game CDs or DVD, however, you can just insert it in the DVD drive.
If you have Windows 10 just open it and install it.
  4. Install the game from the now-mounted disk image. If you need a serial key, check HERE.
    • Antivirus programs and Google may flag this file as a virus, it's not. The keygen is perfectly safe!
    • You will need some unzip program like 7-Zip.
  5. Download and install the latest EA patch Patch 1.06 (Select the game language you installed)
Alternativly you can download and install Bfme2 1.09 - Switcher, that contains 1.00, 1.06 and 1.09. Switch to 1.06 if you want play Rotwk.

Install Rise of the Witch-King 2.01

  1. Make sure you have installed BFME2 as per our guide. If you haven't, check the related tab to the right of this guide. RotWK will not work on its own, as it is merely an expansion pack.
  2. Download the clean ISO of The Rise of the Witch-king - 4.2 GB (Mirror 1) (Mirror 2).
  3. Mount the downloaded .iso file with Daemon Tools or equivalent program.
The process is equivalent to point 3 and 4 of The Battle for Middle-earth II installation. You only have to change your serial key with Rise of the Witch-King's one.
  4. Download and install Patch 2.01 for your game language (use the DVD versions, unless you're still using the copy from EA Store/Origin).

Install Rise of the Witch-King 2.02

  1. Download and install Patch 2.02 - Size 936 MB. During the installation process choose the standard (4:3) or widescreen (16:9) version if you have a 4:3 monitor or 16:9 one.
  2. Run the game! You will no longer need the ISO mounted, or the DVD inserted in your drive.

If you want to keep playing on a previous version

Spoiler
To play 2.01 you have to:
  1. Switch back from 2.02 to 2.01 via the 2.02 switcher. Run it as admin if it crashes or random errors pop up
  2. Download the mini-image. Unzip and Mount the .mds with Daemon Tools or equivalent program. Refer to the no-CD guide for further information.
To play Bfme2 1.09 you have to:
  1. Have Bfme2 1.09 - Switcher, that contains 1.00, 1.06 and 1.09 and switch back to 1.09
To play Bfme2 1.06 or 1.00 you have to:
  1. Have Bfme2 1.09 - Switcher, that contains 1.00, 1.06 and 1.09 and switch back to 1.06 (or 1.00).
  2. Download the mini-image. Unzip and mount the .mds with Daemon Tools or equivalent program. Refer to the no-CD guide for further information that the process is equal for bfme2 images.

Stop Working

A game crash without any error message (the game just "stopped working")?

Solution:
  1. Download My_The_Lord_of_the_Rings__The_Rise_of_the_Witch_king_Files.zip
    Attached File My_The_Lord_of_the_Rings__The_Rise_of_the_Witch_king_Files.zip
    Size: 763bytes
    Number of downloads: 556
    Player Name Side Team
  2. This zip contains RotWK's secondary, hidden directory (My Lord of the Rings, The Rise of the Witch-king) which would typically be found by searching %AppData% > Roaming. If you're experiencing a crash on start followed by no error message, you're most likely missing this directory. If not, the issue would be graphics card related in which case you would need to follow the link at the bottom of this post.

MORDOR_FORTRESS_WALLHUB_EXPANSION_BUILDCOST

RotWK 2.02 is not compatible with Bfme2 1.09 patch.

Solution: use the bfme2 patch switcher to switch back to 1.06.

"No-CD" Error

This step is not necessary when playing new 2.02 versions (6.0.0 or above).
  • If you do not own the original RotWK disc and have downloaded the game from the links above, you will need to mount a mini image in order to bypass the "no CD" error.
  • Do not crack the game as it will prevent you from playing online with other members of the community. It has also been known to cause other issues as well.
  • When mounting your disc image, make sure you extract the downloaded contents to a folder of your choice. Both files work in conjunction with each other so this step is mandatory.
  • Make sure you mount the .mds file and not the .mdf.
  • Remember to mount your mini image with SCSI as a normal mount will not always be sufficient.
  • Should you still receive the "no CD" error, and you are using Daemon Tools Lite, downgrading to an earlier version should solve your problem. Try version 4.48, it's most likely to give you no problems.
  • It is recommended that you fall back to Daemon Tools Lite (bearing in mind the aforementioned pointer) if you experience issues with the other mounting software applications.

Switcher "checksum error"

If you get the following error when trying to apply 2.02:
CODE
Error: Could not switch file game.dat
because: Can not find any file with checksum
a87544fb591fa6129299085f2ef5da7c1432f4c1

Most likely your anti-virus software has removed a crucial 2.02 file called game.dat (or game.other).

Either:
1. Remove the file from quarantaine and apply 2.02 via the switcher again.
Or:
2. Disable your anti-virus software and reinstall 2.02.

If possible, I would like the 1 on 1 help to help me Download this. Screen sharing would be of great help.

I have tried Downloading everything on my own. It worked for an hour on BfME2 but then once i tried RotWK then it all went south. I am trying to have these two as well as 2 other mods on my computer again.

I Don't know to well what I am Doing. I would like to learn and get this taken care of hahaha. Used to use the Discs which have now worn away before i knew to burn them. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I want to Do it right without having too many Downloads and files.

Thank You.

We didn't do a good video that shows how to install this game. But bro the guide is pretty simple. Follow step by step and tell us (maybe with some screenshots) if you have some problems.

Where are you from?

Look who's back.

Have you checked to see whether your game's options.ini is present?

Hello everyone,
Some of my friends told me about this game. They followed the guide and now they can perfectly play with the 2.01 patch using GameRanger.
So I tried the same steps and didn't work (i installed everything and patched to 2.01 but when i mounted the SmokingMan image using daemon tools and tried to execute the game, a No CD error appeared)
I tried many other virtual cd program like Alcohol 52% and WinCDEmu but i obtained the same result. I also checked if i had the Option.ini and i have it.
I've read then that i could downgrade DaemonTool but i couldn't find a singol version that i was able to run (a message pop up when i try to execute the installer and the message is "Can't execute x64 app on your computer" but my computer is x64 so i don't get the point.
I'm stack so if anyone can help or link me a working version of DT or another virtual cd program or even tell me why i can't run a x64 app on my computer when is clearly a x64 system, I would thank you greatly!
Lomb

Did you mount daemon tool with SCSI?

I did but I solved the problem adding a file into the "Rise of the Witch King" folder that makes me able to use the Edain Mod on 2.01 patch without disk image. I worked on it like 4 hours to solve that. Thanks anyway for the help smile.gif

Hello guys,

it's my first time here, is the information above is still working?

I have my original BFME2 DVD, unfortunately i didn't make ISO copy before, and right after I installed it in my windows 10 computer (core i7, Nvidia geforce gtx 950M) it says "Please insert the correct DVD-ROM, select OK and restart application". even I inserted the original CD it's still the same.

I tried your step by step installation, and using my own CD key, still to the same problem appeared.

I tried to follow your steps for "No CD Error". such as;

"No-CD" Error
This step is not necessary when playing new 2.02 versions (6.0.0 or above).
1. If you do not own the original RotWK disc and have downloaded the game from the links above, you will need to mount a mini image in order to bypass the "no CD" error.

still "dvd-rom problem" appeared. can you tell me where i can download version 4.48? i'm using version 10 and i didn't tried the other version and apps also.

PS: sorry i'm using the old mds & mdf file for BFME2.

I already got the solution

I put my pactch switcher to 1.0

then add the options.ini in BFME2 folder in appdata folder.

i followed this link

The BFME2 .iso download always fails at 1.5 GB.... Are there any alternative torrents that would save the hassle of failed and interrupted downloads?

Hello guys,
I've done all the guide until this part, and the game still just open the first image and stops without message.
What can I do now?

There is only one error message in the patch 2.02 installation.

Edit: I've done it right this time, tnks
