A recent quarterly financial report from game publisher Funcom has revealed that they are partnering with real-time strategy (RTS) game developer Petroglyph. The report states that Funcom are fully funding the project together with Petroglyph and that it will be based on the Conan the Barbarian IP.
The genre of the game has yet to be explicitly mentioned but considering the report noted that "Petroglyph is a well-known developer of Real Time Strategy games", it can be implied it will at the very least be a strategy game, if not outright an RTS game.
This would mark the second time that Petroglyph develops a game based on a licensed IP, the first being 2006's Star Wars: Empire at War and its expansion, Forces of Corruption. As for this Conan strategy game, Funcom has penciled in a release date during the first half of 2019 on the PC.
What are your thoughts on this potential game? Would it fare better than Petrogplyph's recent releases? Do tell us your thoughts and comments below!
Not sure what a rts game would look like in this universe. The art for a conan rts should be stellar - Frank Frazetta inspired. And Petroglyph been pushing out the ugliest rts games, so a very bad match.
