While Demigod does not "officially" support replays in this initial beta stage, I have discovered a way to play replays and created a little tool to make the task easier. Please download it here:
Just extract the files into some memorable location and follow these steps. If you have any trouble then be sure to ask here.
Instructions
The first thing you need to do upon downloading the Replay Loader is to make sure that it knows where your Demigod.exe is located.
If it was installed to the default directory, "C:\Program Files\Stardock Games\Demigod\bin\Demigod.exe" then you don't need to do anything. If not the follow the next step.
Right-click on Demigod Replay Loader.bat and select Edit. You see where it says "C:\Program Files\Stardock Games\Demigod\bin\Demigod.exe"? Just change that directory to wherever your Demigod.exe is installed to and leave the "/replay %1" bit as it is. If you don't know where your Demigod.exe is located, just find a shortcut to Demigod on your desktop or in your start menu, right-click it, and select "Properties". The path will be highlighted in the "Target" box. Just copy that into the Replay Loader.
Once set up, all you need to do is try it out.
If you've played a game of Demigod already (why wouldn't you?) then the first thing to do would be to navigate to your Demigod replays folder. This is located in:
My Document -> My Games -> Gas Powered Games -> Forge -> replays
In there, you'll have a folder for each Demigod profile. You'll probably just have one, go into it.
In there, you should have a file called "LastGame.FRGReplay". This is the replay of your last game you played. To launch it, double click the file. It will ask you whether you want to use web services to find out how to open the file, or to select a program from a list. Choose to select a program from a list.
On the next window that pops up, click "Browse..." and find the Demigod Replay Loader.bat. Select this file, and be sure to check the "Always use the selected program to open these kinds of files", and click ok.
That's it! If everything has worked then Demigod should be loading up your replay right now.
Do note that the LastReplay.FRGReplay file will be overwritten every time you play a game. If you want to truly save your replays, then you should rename this file after every good game you play. Renaming it will ensure that it is not overwritten.
Please remember that the replay viewing feature is not yet supported by Demigod officially so it may be a little buggy. On my system, the graphics were a little messed up, although still bearable. Your mileage may vary. Please do not send any bug reports regarding the replay system to GPG or Stardock as this feature is not intended to be used yet.
Stay tuned with GameReplays.org as we will soon have the Demigod replay system up and running, where you can upload your replays, comment on others and simply have a great time playing Demigod and learning from the best!
I find it incredibly hard to lose in the game right now. What do you do that makes you have to comeback? I was thinking about gimping myself somewhat to up the challenge. Maybe not doing anything for 5-10 minutes and attacking level 10ers with a level 1 Asn. I'll try it later.
I tried loading a replay and it started fine, but then about a few minutes into it, it said "AI is taking over for Tman" and the game froze.
I was hoping there would be some sort of way to peer into what the other player is doing...eg, I'd love to see their skill tree, what items they've selected, etc. I really really want to learn how to play Sedna and ghosting another player who is awesome is the best way.
I guess I'm spoiled by SupCom replays...hopefully GPG will come out for support of this in the near future.
Yea the reason the game will freeze is because they are buggy and arnt officially supported yet - the replays atm have no features because they are not even meant to be in yet.
But yea, GPG said they will patch this in once they have dealt with connectivity issues.
So i take it there is no real way YET to actually monitor 1 demigod to see there Point of view and also maybe what upgrades they are doing ... because from a top down view of everyone - it is kinda hard to analyse the game between 2 good players???
