There are only 2 TF2 forums that matter: the official steam one and TF2F. GR.org/TF2 will never get as much attention as these.

There was still somewhat active community compared to other forums here.

And this was the only civilized place to talk about TF.

Big surprise.

Like I said before (oh yes, a "I told you so"-post), there's no niche this forum can fill other than getting people started in competitive play- or it can go down and become a second steam-forum without the huge amount of idiots.

What do you expect from a forum with separate stickies on how to record & play demos ('cause people can't use a fucking search-engine).

Also like I said before, I tried to get it going- the topic I made on pickups & shit got a hundred odd views, maybe now people will start to realize that it's not the "walk-in gamers" that give games longevity. This very topic surely will soon be buried under a load of spy unlock suggestions and stuff though I'm sure so nvm.

All of the following is my opinion and my opinion only.

Steps towards creating a good community portal:

1. Track down people willing to support the portal - writers, video editors, fans.
2. Open community servers - that could be easily accomplished, if you manage to find people
a) create a Steam group
who are willing to open the servers for you.
3. Start an IRC channel; PickUp and Clan arrangements.
4. Gather around few clans that are willing to compete against others, that will bring more and more players of the already existing auditory into your portal.
5. Arrange tournaments that are free of charge and prizes.
6. Establish connections with the active-working leagues and start covering it.
7. Carefully plan how to involve more people into the game, besides just trying to re-direct the stream of already playing.
8. Pay attention to custom maps and content - video, art etc.

As it comes to me the only things that prevents me from doing coverage of the etf2l is the need for internet space, as I am not privy to the web coding standarts, and all I know is just for general knowledge.

It's not too late, we would only need a fresh restart. A well-thought, global plan like Insulter put there should be perfectioned and then used as a guideline to build this section from scratch again. We still have the guides, a bit of the core community still lurks around and most of us play the game well enough to be something of an authority concerning TF2. The focus has to be different though, as the combination of purely guides and demos simply does not work.
This section died because people who were waiting for the promised server left, frustrated and looking for another active community. A server should be the core of a new project, something like Uberium; a step-up from pubs to competitive play. It's on that kind of pubs that people learn to go further than the basics and bring themselves to a higher level, sometimes even high enough to join or found a clan.

Gentlemen, we need a ressurection plan, and we need it before litteraly EVERYONE has left this forum.
