HIDDEN (AKA discontinued) RA3 UNITS FOUND

Hey there everyone...I just found some top secret units in RA3...

From their filenames, apparently, I guessed they were:

Allied Infantry Fighting Aircraft

Basically, an aerial version of the IFV, with the ability to use afterburners either to go faster (while probably receiving damage), to "teleport" from one location to the other (like the GDI Firehawk in C&C3)...This was probably removed because it was deemed unuseful, OP, and/or because it had to have the possibility to evacuate its passenger AND use its afterburners. Note that the Sonic afterburners ability that the Apollo once apparently had could be the ones this unit had. In fact, this could even be the original Apollo design...Though I wouldn't hold my breath on that, as in the game's XML files, it's called "AlliedIFA".

Empire Crane

Likely an Empire version of the Soviet Crane. Was probably removed due to the Empire mechanic being changed during development.

Empire Sea Transport

Looks like a larger, more cool and more detailed version of the Sudden Transport. No idea why this was removed, as Soviets can use Twinblades to transport vehicles over sea, Allies have the Chronosphere, but Japan has nothing...The graphics weren't even recycled for say, the cargo transports in the 2nd and 3rd Empire missions. They still used the Sudden transport art, which makes the vehicle look awkwardly small for a cargo transport. This unit can be placed in the editor, it can be found in the object list under "ByNativeType -> Japan -> Unit", its name is "JapanTransportVehicle2". I haven't tested it in-game, though it might not be able to transport anything, could crash the map its on while the game loads it, or even simply disappear at start.

Remember? They told us it was back, and then removed it to replace it with an amphibious version of the Bullfrog. It could transport 5 infantry units and looked somewhat like a Gattling Tank from YR, but with flak cannon barrels instead of gattling gun barrels.

did you find this while rumeging though RA3 files. This stuff seems mega cool somone patch them in

Yea i saw them... However I never posted anything. This post\images someone else made. But yes i did see them while i was snooping.

Means they probably were pretty far into the developement state until they figured out the current Empire build system!

They would just cause even more balance trouble tongue.gif None of those items were in the game when we played at the community summit and that was in july which was quite a ways before the actual game release.

i think the crane was more of a super power feature originally, and got changed to that horrid thing it is now on the powers treeline.

Having upgrades to the mcv does seem interesting, like a crane for instance. Should've been a repairing crane. Would've made core harrasment with TDs almost null early game. As well as cores being able to take on light infantry while repairing.

Thats interesting, but the reason it exists is because originally all the factions had the same build mechanic. AKA the classic C&C style. (allies)

Wow nice finding these out, the sea transport would be pretty cool for transporting tanks across water, but pointless since tsunami tanks are amphibious already lol

Yea I agree...

But it would be cool if Tsunamis were better on land and not amphibious because they suck on land.

OR

It could be like a sudden transport, BUT UNITS COULD FIRE OUT! Now that would be cool. happy.gif
