Custom Map Transfer Enabled!

Greetings Commanders and Comrades! I am pleased to announce that automatic custom map transfer between players has been enabled for Command and Conquer Tiberium Wars, Kane's Wrath and Red Alert 3 on C&C:Online. Custom map support now works in game just like it did under GameSpy.

This is very good news Toxic. Thanks all of you. Just one question what kind of new custom maps awaits us as you stated in announcement?. 1v1 2v2 3v3 4v4 ? or all of them ?

Let's see what some of the great map makers like Predatore and CGF have up their sleeves. The map making and modding communities in these games are, in fact, larger than the multiplayer communities, so the possibilities are endless.

Tbh, you'r absolutely right. But in the other hand kane kind of soulless without custom maps. Now he has soul. tongue.gif

The big thing to consider here, is that a large amount of more "casual" style players like playing custom maps that have floated around for years. Seeing that the automatic transfer is now working, we will hopefully see some more activity in the server and have a much easier method of evaluating new maps. This is great news!

I hope same thing, and i'll do everything to call other casual style players to kw as much as i can. And this custom map issue solved today. We have much more time.

Does transfering compiled maps work? Are the map streams and map.str files are transfered, too? This was a major issue on the Gamespy servers.

No, transferring compiled maps does not work (as per GameSpy). The newly implemented mechanism replicates the old one, except the maps are not cached. However, while we were thinking around this (and the ZH ladder map pool), we considered the possibility of the CCO launcher (or actually Gentool) installing .big maps and I guess that could be done if it were considered desirable. Some of these issues (including the CCG and ZH ladder map pool) are still up for debate and your expert input would be appreciated; would you like to join the discussion? PM me if you are.

why is that?

shouldnt be hard having it transfer some additional files in the map folder (str, possibly bin/relo/imp/manifest stream files for compiled maps)


ps- compiled maps dont necessarily have to be in .big files, they can be the appdata maps folder just like any custom map, just along with the additional stream files
